American Studies: Visions, Revisions, Contestations - MA Seminar 3 3301-KAS3DYB
The seminar will be conducted in the form of weekly seminar meetings and one-on-one conferences. By the end of semester, students will have completed writing the second chapter of the MA thesis.

Knowledge:
- Students deepen their knowledge of key approaches to the critical study of American culture and society
- Students identify major schools, research methods, techniques and critical tools in American Studies and Cultural Studies

- Students organize their research project, choose a topic and research problem, formulate questions, decide on a critical approach and key concepts
- Students assess the state of research and select sources relevant for their project

In class discussions students acquire skills of expressing their thoughts in a clear, coherent, logical and precise manner, with the use of language which is correct grammatically, lexically and phonetically.
Assessment criteria
Throughout the semester, students will present their current state of reserach and progress on the MA project.
Grading criteria:
- participation in the seminar (2 absences allowed)
- in-class presentations on the current work, reflecting progress made on the MA project (3-4 times per semester)
- participation in one-on-one conferences to discuss and receive feedback on their writing related to the MA project (at least 3 times per semester)
- the supervisor's approval of Chapter 2 of MA project and the revised/final version of Chapter 1
Failure to attend the seminar and one-on-one conferences (at least 3-4 times per semester) will result in the student not getting credit for the seminar.
