Evaluation, Assessment and Feedback in Foreign Language Teaching and Learning 3301-JS2937-1ST
This course explores the topics of assessment, evaluation, and feedback in foreign language teaching and learning. It first provides an overview of approaches to assessing and evaluating language skills, their evolution over time, and the key concepts associated with them. It then discusses various forms of assessment, such as formative, summative, conventional, alternative, and others. The course also addresses the issue of assessing foreign language learners' competences according to the updated Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Council of Europe, 2020). Then it focuses on presenting the main aspects of assessing and evaluating oral (speaking and listening) and written (reading and writing) communication skills and the challenges associated with them. Finally, it discusses different types of feedback for foreign language learners and how to implement them in the classroom. The course also aims to equip participants with the ability to critically analyze existing language tests, create their own assessment measures based on their acquired knowledge, and provide feedback.
