Multilingual and Multicultural Education 3301-JS2926-2ST
This course empowers students to comprehend and critically analyze language learning and teaching within various educational settings, with a specific emphasis on multilingual and multicultural environments, individuals, and organizations. Throughout the semester we will explore the main concepts, theories, principles, controversies and ideologies in current multilingual and multicultural research and practice including: language education policies, the role of language as a learning tool and as a resource, developing pluriliteracies, the psychology of how learners learn their languages and literacies, multilingualism and cognition, multilingual digital literacies, multilingual identity in learners and teachers, multilingualism and status in the classroom, and multilingualism, 'race', ethnicity and anti-discrimination.

- apply advanced terminology and notions pertinent to multilingual and multicultural education, K_U01
- apply knowledge obtained during the course of studies to account for and solve a problem, thereby completing a research task related to multilingual and multicultural education, K_U03
- analyze linguistic, literary and cultural phenomena and draw generalizations on their basis in the context of societal, historical and economic factors on an advanced level, K_U04
- discern alternative methodological paradigms within multilingual and multicultural education, K_U05
- participate in group projects, collaborate with others and be a team leader in conducting collaborative research, presentations and other tasks included in the curriculum, K_U08
- present knowledge in a coherent, precise and linguistically correct manner in English on level C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, ensuring an appropriate register and form, K_U09
