British Popular Culture in the 19th and 20th Centuries 3301-2ST-LK-KON005
Classes complement the diploma seminar, focusing on British fictions which are placed within the social and cultural contexts. Classes cover in detail themes in which students are currently conducting research in order to write a diploma thesis, and examine original sources in this connection. They therefore deal with specific themes arising under their specific subject of research. The reading list will reflect the students' individual research interests.

Students will be familiar with:
K_W02 advanced principles of research design applied in literary studies and culture and religion studies, in particular the principles of method and tool selection in formulating research problems concerning popular culture
K_W06 selected dilemmas and issues of contemporary popular culture in the light of various academic disciplines, as related to the compulsory subjects included in the programme and other elective courses
Abilities
Students will be able to:
K_U01 apply the advanced terminology, theories and research methods of literary studies and culture and religion studies to solve complex and original research problems in accordance with his/her chosen specialization (and educational path) in reference to popular culture
K_U02 apply advanced principles of research design appropriate for literary studies and culture and religion studies,
and in particular is able to:
- select appropriate sources, methods and tools
- critically analyze and synthesize the current state of research in the discipline
- interpret and present the results obtained
using advanced information and communication techniques
K_U06 apply knowledge from different academic disciplines relating to selected dilemmas and issues of contemporary popular culture
Social competences
Students will be ready to:
K_K02 recognize the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems; consult experts when required
Education at language level B2+.
Assessment criteria
- attendance / participation in discussions: 10%
- presentations + forum / projects: 30%
- written or oral test: 60% (verification W,U,K)
2 absences are allowed.
