Information technology 3300-TI-MSF-1-ZP
The goal of the course is to develop knowledge and skills in the use of computer software in the context of collecting, processing and presenting information. Participants learn the functions of basic applications, such as word processors, spreadsheets and presentation creators, as well as they learn conscious and effective use of IT tools to complete academic tasks.
Particular emphasis is placed on developing the ability to search and use information useful in the work of a philologist and familiarising oneself with technological solutions supporting the learning of foreign languages.
The classes cover the following issues, among others:
• electronic dictionaries, automatic translators, text corpora;
• special characters and autocorrect;
• library resources;
• resources for people learning foreign languages;
• editing the text;
• working with a spreadsheet;
• creating surveys;
• creating multimedia presentations;
• basics of cybersecurity;
• Internet and copyright;
• fact-checking and fake news;
• artificial intelligence: opportunities, prospects and threats.
The classes are both theoretical and practical.

K_W14 The student has the knowledge and understanding of some basic information regarding tools in digital humanities in the work of language specialists.
K_U09 The student can communicate with the help of various channels and communicative strategies with specialists of selected branches of science.
K_K01 The student is ready to self-evaluate their knowledge, skills, and to evaluate any material critically.
Assessment criteria
The course is in a remote asynchronous format and is based on studying e-tutorials and performing exercises on the e-learning platform.
Course requirements:
- individual and timely completion of tasks placed on the Google Classroom e-learning platform;
- receiving a positive grade in 2 tests.
