BA Seminar 3300-SL-4-SFK-Z
The main goal of the seminar is to prepare students for writing a thesis in a comparative model. It is dedicated to research methods in comparative literature & culture and intercultural relations in literary life. It is divided into a theoretical and practical section. The first part is devoted to analyzing texts related to the creation of science and establishing dialogue in scientific discourse. Furthermore, it is devoted to the analysis of theoretical texts on comparative literature and/or culture and a review of research methods in literary studies, with an emphasis on those preferred when working on one's own topic. The second part includes the following components: an analysis of selected comparative works, defining one's own research object, exercises in the use of research methods and traditions, and presentation of one's own attempts to apply selected methods. The most important aspect of this part is the search for forms of expression, and the construction of a logical argument that does not reproduce acquired knowledge about the analyzed texts but stems from one's own observations, discoveries, and conceptualisations. This part also demonstrates how to distinguish textually between one's own statements and the literature referenced in one's works. It also teaches techniques of managing citations, creating bibliographies, and maintaining scholarly apparatus. A significant element of the practical part of the seminar is the presentation of excerpts from bachelor's theses, which are analyzed from the perspective of the methods applied.
