Term 2025L:
The course aims to provide a detailed and philological overview of Italian cinema, which until 2010 was primarily the domain of film and cultural studies, a topic rarely addressed within Italian philology. The course focuses on comprehensive systematisation and deepening the knowledge of Italian history from the country's unification in the mid-19th century to the first decades of the 21st century, through the perspective of literary and cinematic works that reflect a broadly understood Italianità, and significant historical, social, and cultural events. An integral part of each session is the analysis of cultural texts, which are key to understanding the specificity of Italian cultural identity and the significant social processes occurring throughout the decades discussed. |

Assessment criteria
The course is based on active, student-centered teaching methods that aim to develop independent thinking and analytical and interpretive skills. The main method used is a project-based approach, in which students conduct their own research on selected topics in Italian literature and its connections with other forms of artistic expression. Another method used is inquiry-based learning that enables participants to explore the topic independently, to formulate research questions, and to seek interdisciplinary solutions.
The course also uses the method of a flipped classroom, where students prepare for classes individually based on assigned materials, which allows for better use of meeting time for discussion, reflection, and practical application of knowledge. Guided discussions are also conducted during classes, which foster in-depth analysis and argumentation, as well as the development of communicative skills. The problem-based approach presents students with specific challenges and interpretive questions that require critical thinking and a creative approach to the teaching material.
This combination of methods allows for a multidimensional understanding of the course topics, engaging students in interdisciplinary and comparative research on literature and other forms of expression.
A project 65% and a presentation 35% on a selected topic aligned with the course content must be completed independently by the student. The use of generative artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, is prohibited at all stages of the project.
