Swiss literature in Italian 3300-LWŁOCH-HEL1-L
After an introduction concerning the multifaceted nature of the issue of Swiss literature(s), the issue of readership and the contemporary Swiss literary market (including literary translations), the most important cultural institutions, festivals and literary prizes, Swiss-Italian and Swiss-Polish literary links, the Students are introduced to the most significant works of Italian-language literature in Switzerland. The overview includes the presentation of various literary forms and phenomena on the background of the social, political, historical, cultural and linguistic context of the Swiss Confederation. The course will introduce, chronologically, the basic concepts and issues and trends related to the work of the most important writers of the area indicated.
The concept of the course is that Students will be introduced to texts or read excerpts from works (poems, novels, short stories and other forms) selected from i.a. the following authors:
Francesco Chiesa, Giorgio Orelli, Alberto Nessi, Fabio Pusterla, Fabiano Alborghetti, Vanni Bianconi, Yari Bernasconi, Giuseppe Zoppi, Piero Bianconi, Felice Filippini, Plinio Martini, Giovanni Orelli, Anna Felder, Fleur Jaeggy, Anna Ruchat, Claudia Quadri, Flavio Stroppini.
The meetings include elements of lecture as well as workshops. During the classes, Students analyse critically and creatively, individually and in groups, literary texts or fragments of them, which they place in a broad context of phenomena, trends, figures, issues related to the realities of Swiss culture and society.

Knowledge: Students know and understand

- in-depth selected facts, processes and phenomena occurring in the field of contemporary literature in Switzerland (K_W04, P7S_WG)
Skills: Students are able to
- apply the acquired research skills, including: critical reading of texts, critical analysis of Swiss cultural and social phenomena, synthesis of various ideas and views on Swiss studies, formulation of hypotheses, selection of methods and construction of research tools, elaboration and presentation of results to the extent necessary to participate in a scientific discussion and preparation of own research papers with the use of various sources and theoretical approaches ( K_U01, P7S_UW)
- to substantively argue with the use of own views and views of other authors in a multicultural context, and to formulate conclusions and synthesize them (K_U08, P7S_UW, P7S_UK)
Social competence: Students are ready to
- cooperate in a group, assuming various roles in it (K_K01, P7S_KR)
- systematically follow contemporary processes and phenomena occurring in literature, culture and social life (K_K07, P7S_KR)
Assessment criteria
Credit for the course consists of the following:
- student's continuous work, current preparation for classes and activity - 50% of the grade,
- preparation of a written paper on a topic selected and consulted with the teacher beforehand (remote form) - 50% of the grade.
Attendance in class is a prerequisite for credit. Two unjustified absences during the semester are allowed. In the case of absence, the student is obliged to present a sick note to the teacher no later than 14 days after the end of the sick leave.
