History of French literature: 17th-18th centuries 3300-HLF-SFK-2-Z
The lecture is conducted in French. The lecture presents a panorama of French literature of the 17th and 18th centuries, the most important phenomena, currents, genres and authors, and discusses basic concepts such as Baroque, Classicism, Enlightenment and Sentimentalism. The lectures are arranged chronologically, first French literature of the 17th century is presented, then the 18th century, taking into account the evolution of particular genres and phenomena in both centuries. Some lectures are devoted to one author or one literary trend. The aim of the lecture is to acquaint students with selected, the most important issues of French literature of both centuries, to show the importance of the discussed phenomena and the role of work of the presented writers.

K_W02 The student has a structured knowledge and understanding of general literary phenomena of French literature of the 17th and 18th centuries.
K_W03 The student has knowledge and understanding of the specialist terminology of general literary studies and French literary studies, specifically concerning the phenomena of the 17th and 18th centuries.
K_W08 The student has the knowledge and understanding of the multifaceted relations of French literature of the 17th and the 18th centuries to historic and cultural processes.
K_W09 The student has the advanced knowledge and understanding of the historic and cultural context of France of the 17th and the 18th centuries.
K_U03 The student can recognise, analyse, and interpret French texts from the 17th and the 18th centuries; can conduct their analysis with specialist terminology and adequate methods.
K_U13 The student can access and gather information independently, and can develop skills with the help of adequate sources.
K_K05 The student is ready to show respect and care for preserving French cultural heritage.
Assessment criteria
Attendance at lecture is compulsory. Exceeding the limit of three unexcused absences results in additional work. More than 6 absences will result in expulsion from the student list.
Credit: written examination on the knowledge given in the lecture and on the readings from the list.
