After completing this course, students will be able to
understand longer speeches, lectures, and even complex
discussions. They will understand a wide range of difficult
texts, recognizing hidden meanings expressed indirectly.
Can understand most news and TV programs on current events.
Understands articles and reports on contemporary issues.
Understands films in their original language if the actors use
literary language and present detailed opinions and arguments.
Can understand contemporary literary prose.
Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, finding the
right words without much effort. Can use the language freely in
social, educational, or professional contexts. Can produce clear,
well-structured, detailed oral or written statements on complex
issues.
Can write clear, precise texts on topics related to their interests.
Can write a short essay or report, conveying information or
presenting arguments for and against. Can present the essence
of complex issues in detail in the form of a letter, essay, or
report, emphasizing the most important points. Can formulate
different types of text in a style appropriate to the addressee.

In line with a systemic model of language instruction, which
assumes the acquisition of skills related to mastering the
language as a set of grammatical, syntactic, and lexical rules,
alongside an analysis of the nature of language as a socio-
cultural phenomenon and the development of (inter)cultural
competence (in accordance with the CEFR and FREPA:
https://www.ore.edu.pl/2017/12/frepa-system-opisu-
pluralistycznych-podejsc-do-jezykow-i-kultu-kompetencje-i-
zasoby/), language education is carried out along two
complementary pathways: general thematic content and
cultural thematic content. Both dimensions are integrated and
mutually reinforcing, ensuring a systematic transmission of
knowledge about the culture of the region and the selected
target-language country.
Student workload includes:
Classroom participation – 60 hours (2 ECTS)
Preparing for classes – 30 hours (2 ECTS)
The course is conducted within the “Integrated Teaching & Learning Development Programme – ZIP 2.0”, which is co-financed by the European Social Fund – the European Funds for Social Development Programme 2021–2027 (FERS) (contract no.: FERS.01.05-IP.08-0365/23-00).

A student is practicing without having to fear his/her speech
communication on the advanced level:
On completing the course, the student:
KNOWDLEDGE:
1. one has in-depth knowledge of history, geography and
culture of a given language area, is capable to relate it to the
realities of his/her own country;
2. one has in-depth knowledge of the role and functions of a
foreign language both in individual as well social sphere.
SKILLS:
1. expresses himself/herself in a precise and comprehensive
way, using effectively various kinds of oral or written
discourse in social, academic and professional contacts and
matters;
2. adopts the style of oral and written discourse to a potential
recipient, making an appropriate use of the rules of discourse
organization;
3. makes analysis, synthesis and interpretation of information,
instructions to perform various tasks, including tests
instructions, both heard or read, from a wide range of longer,
complex texts on general subjects as well as those relating to
his/her subject of studies;
4. participates actively and spontaneously in conversations,
discussion and lectures, conducted by native and other users of
the language;
5. uses a wide range of vocabulary enabling precise expression
of emotions and formulating ideas and opinions on abstract,
complex and unfamiliar topics;
6. solves few communication problems independently,
consulting dictionaries or asking the speaker to explain details.
COMPETENCES:
1. one is able to collaborate in a group of people, using the
target language, effectively defining tasks for oneself
and others;
2. one knows learning strategies and understands the need
for self-education and lifelong learning;
3. one understands a key role of a learner in the learning
process – the autonomy, motivation and responsibility
for optimization of the learning process;
4. one has his/her own views and assessments of language
and cultural reality.
Concerning the specific learning outcomes after completing the
course, the student acquires skills:
1. knows and understands in an advanced way the
comprehensive nature of the language, with particular
emphasis on the cultural context of Russia.
2. can communicate with professionals in Russian through
multiple communication channels as well as random
methods, including translation techniques within areas
of cultural issues, literary studies, linguistics, as well as
historical information about the region countries
3. can prepare written and oral asserting in Russian on
selected subjects in the field of cultural theory and the
issues of the countries of the region (political, social
and economic issues in contexts of cultural
phenomena). Thus, they can present the results of their
work in the Group forum.
4. able to use the Russian language at level C1 according
to the Common European Framework of Reference for
Languages.
5. can use modern communication and information
technologies in his work.
Assessment criteria
I. The organization of classes:
According to The detailed rules of studies at the Faculty of
Applied Linguistics (The Resolution No. 114 by the Faculty
of Applied Linguistics Board of 19 December, 2017):
1) Attendance at all classes, covered by the plan, shall be
compulsory (§ 9 (2)).
2) It is not possible to have a resit if the reason of failing the
credit was noncompliance with the requirement to participate
in them. In such a case a student can be conditionally
registered in an successive stage of study and can repeat the
failed course, according to the University Foreign Language
Teaching System (the Resolution No. 119 from 17 June,
2009).
3) In case of 30 hours in semester, 2 absences without
justifying are acceptable. Missed classes must be made up in
accordance with the requirements of the lecturer. The
requirements are provided by the lecturer during the first
class.
II. Assessment criteria
The final grade for language classes is based on the following
elements:
– prepared oral presentations, spontaneous comments during
classes, or other forms of expression as decided by the teacher
depending on the goals set for a given semester (e.g., dialogues
in pairs, short presentations, role-playing scenes) – 25% of the
grade,
– homework results, short tests – 25% of the grade,
– final test results – 50% of the grade.
In order to receive a passing grade for the semester, students
must demonstrate achievement in each of the above-mentioned
categories (students who receive 0% in any category, i.e., who
have not demonstrated any activity in one of them, will not
receive a passing grade).
Grading system:
99 – 100% – 5 (excellent)
93 – 98% – 5 (very good)
87 – 92% – 4,5 (fairly good)
77 – 86% – 4 (good)
71 – 76% – 3,5 (satisfactory plus)
60 – 70% – 3 (satisfactory)
