Culture of the countries of the region in the European context- Germany 3224-D5EURNIEM
Aim of the course is to identify and analyze the relationships between German culture and the cultures of other European countries, and to position the selected culture within the broader landscape of cultural phenomena and processes shaping the current face of European culture.
The materials analyzed during the course include phenomena and processes related to cultural identity and diversity, forms of social bonds and actions, ideological currents and their associated practices of institutionalization, contestation, and emancipation, as well as literary and artistic representations of these phenomena and processes. All perspectives are united by the use of anthropological theories and categories.

Assessment criteria
1. Course Organization
Attendance is mandatory in order to be eligible for course credit. For courses comprising 30 hours per semester, students are allowed to miss up to 2 classes per semester without justification.
Classes will be conducted in the form of a seminar and discussion (open and group discussions) based on assigned readings or materials presented by the lecturer.
Active participation in the discussion means substantive engagement in at least 50% of the sessions. For each topic, the lecturer will assign reading materials, either textual and/or visual. These materials will be provided to students.
Class Structure:
- Introduction (informative and problem-oriented) with a presentation and supporting materials
- Analysis of texts and/or film recordings (conducted jointly with the group under the lecturer's guidance, possibly including brainstorming)
- Open group discussion and concluding summary.
2. Assessment Methods:
The course concludes with a graded oral examination (randomly drawn questions), assessing the student’s knowledge of the assigned readings and content discussed during the course.
A presentation (or another form of oral contribution) on a selected topis is also required. The final deadline for the presentation will be announced by the lecturer during the first or second class. Students who are absent on these days are responsible for obtaining this information from the lecturer.
Ongoing assessment of students’ substantive participation in class discussions will also be taken into account.
3. Assessment Criteria
The final grade consists of the following components: oral examination (60%), presentation (20%), and class participation (20%) — active participation may raise the final grade. Active participation in discussion means substantive engagement in at least 50% of the classes.

The reading list will be provided to students during the first class of the course, along with the course outline and schedule, key topics, and discussion themes.
