The aim of the course is to prepare students of Central and Eastern Europe Intercultural Studies to carry out cultural research projects using modern technologies, and thus to improve their digital skills. The course will cover the basic principles of academic writing, both in terms of content and editing, which will help students to present their ideas in an academic written form and develop key skills for high-quality academic dialogue.
The aim of the course is to encourage independence in the preparation of written material by familiarising students with the basic information on the technique of creating presentations of written academic works and developing good habits.
Students acquire the skills to work with cultural products and write academic texts, including the ability to use excerpts from works in their own work. Great emphasis is placed on independent and group work, as well as on students' activity and reliability in searching for sources for their work. As part of the course, students prepare themselves to operate effectively in an academic and professional environment in order to develop future social and entrepreneurial competences.
As part of the course, students:
1. acquire skills in working with cultural artefacts;
2. compile a bibliography; develop a bibliography;
3. specify the topic and develop a plan for their final project;
4. acquire the ability to write academic texts (proper preparation of the text, appropriate structure and division) and present them.
Thematic division of classes:
1. Principles of creating a cultural research project and scientific texts
2. Critical evaluation of topics for own scientific projects
3. Discussion of the plan and bibliography of works carried out as part of cultural research projects
4. Composition of works according to the requirements of the ESW cultural studies programme.
5. Discussion of the partial results of research carried out as part of student group research projects
6. Stylistics of texts and stylistics of research presentations of cultural projects
7. Presentations of research results conducted as part of student research projects, discussion and critical evaluation during a student conference

Learning outcomes
Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands:
- concepts and principles of intellectual property protection, including in particular copyright (K_W08).
Skills: the graduate is able to:
- search, select, analyze and use the information he or she needs from various sources (K_U01) and use modern communication and information technologies in your work (K_U11)
- formulate and analyze research problems, select research methods and tools, and conduct simple research in the field of cultural studies and related disciplines related to the Central and Eastern European region under the supervision of a research supervisor (K_U02)
- develop your research skills, acquire knowledge independently, using the support of a research supervisor; skillfully formulate thoughts, present research results in the form of oral or written statements (of various types) (K_U03)
- plan and organize individual and team work, plan and implement the process of independent acquisition of knowledge, including specialist knowledge, after completing studies (K_U10).
Social competences: the graduate is ready to:
- critically evaluate his knowledge, continuously improve his skills and supplement the acquired knowledge (K_K01)
- the student is ready to communicate effectively and live in society, including in a society culturally different from his own, to work in a group, to cope with typical professional situations, to verify his views through substantive discussion and to evaluate his/her knowledge (K_K02)
- defining priorities for the implementation of tasks assigned by oneself and others in the field of social obligations (K_K03)
- correctly identify and resolve professional dilemmas, while remaining open to new ideas in the field of social obligations (K_K04).
Assessment criteria
The classes are seminar-based. In addition to ongoing preparation for classes, students are required to submit and present a cultural research project during a student academic conference.
Compulsory attendance at classes in accordance with the WLS Study Regulations is a prerequisite for passing the course.
The final grade for the course consists of:
- substantive answers to questions asked during classes based on the material (30%)
- presentation of a cultural research project and its defence in accordance with the requirements of the ESW cultural studies programme (70%).
