Translation and interpreting internship 3223-LPRAKT
The internship is relevant to the professional needs of the students and the needs of the society where they will work as translators.
Throughout the internship, the students will be able to improve their linguistic skills in the real life environment.
The internship aims at:
- developing the knowledge gained during studies;
- familiarising a student with working environment;
- shaping the necessary professional skills;
- shaping professional communication skills;
- familiarising a student with organisation structure and translation process;
- developing team work, time management, being responsible for given tasks;
- improving translation skills.
The internship may take place in administrative and government units, translation agencies, research centres or similar bodies where translation is done. A student can choose a company on his/her own or follow career office recommendations (www.biurokarier.uw.edu.pl). The student reports to internship proxy in the Institute and needs his/her acceptance of internship commencement. The student provides the proxy with the following documents:
-the list of translated text in a written form;
-sample translations of minimum 10 pages (1800 characters)
-confirmation and assessment of internship issued by a host institution.

Learning outcomes - knowledge:
The student is expected to
- know translator’s working environment (K_W01),
- know how to translate and/or interpret the texts (K_W04);
- have advanced and practical knowledge of the translation and/or interpretation process (K_W02);
Learning outcomes – skills:
The student is expected to
- be able to recognise the type of source and target texts (K_U01);
- be able to find proper equivalents in a given context using the repository of all possible references, databases and translation tools (K_U02);
- be able to translate a source text into a target text in a selected field (K_U04);
- have got language skills enabling them to participate successfully in the working environment (K_U09).
Learning outcomes – socio-cultural competency:
The student is expected to
- be aware of translator’s ethics and responsibility (K_K05);
- be prepared to function effectively in translation process owing to their language competence (K_K01).
Assessment criteria
The students’ achievements are assessed in accordance with the University regulations. Assessment is done by host institution and by the internship proxy in the Institute based on provided documents, i.e. certificate of internship in the amount of 80 hrs, incl. 40 hrs of translator's assistance and 40 hrs of translation itself.
