Research workshop UNIVERSITY LEAGUE 3223-ILC2-UL
The content of the workshop will provide the student with a deeper insight into the academic profile of his master's program. The project internship consists in preparing research, staying in an external institution for several days in order to conduct research, and then processing and disseminating their results. A project internship has the following components: Analysis and / or solution of one of the more detailed phenomena or substantive problems established by the organization in cooperation with a group of students and the internal superior of the University of Warsaw (part of the internship); Conducting research in an external institution in interaction with employees from the receiving institution and under the care of a tutor from the University of Warsaw and a tutor from a foreign center; Reflective analysis and
discussion of selected phenomena and problems on the international forum (reflective element); Dissemination of results.
Term 2023L:
The students will carry out the project at the Ombudsman's Office under the supervision of a tutor from the UW Faculty of Law and Administration. During the first class, they will be introduced to the linguistic aspects they should pay attention to during the workshop at the Office. During the final class, they will present the results of their research. |

KNOWLEDGE: the graduate knows and understands
- lawyer's work environment and advocacy process (S3_W01),
- the principles of creating various forms of communication and the functioning of a lawyer in the framework of various forms of advocacy (courtroom, law firm, individual contact with a client, etc.) on the domestic and international market (S3_W03),
SKILLS: the graduate is able to
- use the theoretical knowledge in the field of law and linguistics to solve complex problems in the field of international legal communication by making a creative interpretation of the cultural and linguistic context, and make an adequate assessment of the selection of advocacy strategies appropriate for
the context and recipients of communication (S3_U01),
- use the knowledge of research methodologies used in international legal communication to plan and conduct methodologically correct scientific research in the field of advocacy, analyze its results and determine its implications (S3_U02),
SOCIAL COMPETENCES: the graduate is ready to
- recognizing the importance of the latest field knowledge for the critical assessment of advocacy research, in particular published in scientific journals and monographs and popular science sources, including caution and criticism in expressing the assessments in question (S3_K01),
- maintaining openness to knowledge for the purposes of initiating and conducting research on advocacy, in particular to improve the quality, role and availability of advocacy in society (S3_K02),
- maintaining the ethos of the ombudsman and sensitizing oneself and the environment to the issues of observing and developing the principles of professional ethics of a lawyer (S3_K03).

Assessment criteria
Group project - monitoring, evaluation of project work on the basis of a project card, project defense. Assessment of the activities and results obtained by students is carried out on the basis of the criteria established in the
project planning phase and includes both the implementation of the project itself, as well as mutual cooperation in groups, intergroup communication and adherence to the work schedule.
Methods of evaluating the work of students:
- steady evaluation (activity), preparation for the lessons, homeworks
- final oral test.
Assessment criteria:
The final grade comprises:
- steady evaluation (activity) – 20%
- oral test – 80%.
The overall result is established in accordance with the following scale:
51%-60% = 3
61%-70% = 3,5
71%-80% = 4
81%-90% = 4,5
91%-100% = 5
Absences:
Students are permitted two unexcused absences per term. If a student accumulates more than two (2) absences, including excused ones, they should ask the lecturer about the form of getting credit for the material from the classes when the student was absent, and then obtain such credit before the end of the semester. If a student accumulates more than 50% of absences, he/she is not eligible for credit in this course, pursuant the Faculty Regulations.
Practical placement
Conducting research in an external institution in interaction with employees from the receiving institution and under the care of a tutor from the University of Warsaw.
