The aim of the course is to help students develop and master:
- lexical competence (enhancing understanding and the ability to use vocabulary within the framework of the thematic modules prescribed by the curriculum);
- grammatical competence (the ability to understand and produce appropriate and correct structures and sentences on the basis of grammatical rules discussed in class)
- discourse competence (the ability to construct cohesive and coherent speeches and written texts)

Upon completing the course students:
KNOWLEDGE
- will have memorised vocabulary within the framework of the thematic modules taught during the course;
- will be able to recognise morphological and syntactic structures discussed in class;
- will have memorised grammatical structures and constructions taught during the course;
SKILLS
- will be able to apply a variety of forms, grammatical structures and lexical constructructions in speaking and writing;
- will be abe to spontaneously and coherently present their views on a variety of topics, producing an utterence that is fluent and grammatically, stylistically, and phonetically correct;
-will be able to actively participate in discussions, to present views, to report on events, and to present arguments;
- will be able to construct coherent and cohesive written texts, stylistically appropriate, in which the views are clearly presented and well substantiated with additional arguments and examples;
- will be able to explain the meaning of basic legal and business terms;
ATTITUDES
- will be ready to work independently in order to improve their command of Englsih;
- will be able to use dictionaries and other resources.
Assessment criteria
The final examination consists of two separate parts: a written examination and an oral examination. The written examination includes a grammar test, an essay, and two vocabulary tests (general English and Business English). The grading scale is as follows: 0-59% = insufficient/fail, 60-69% = sufficient, 70-74% = satisfactory, 75-84% = good, 85-89% = above good 90-100% = very good/ excellent.
Passing all the written tests allows a student to take the oral exam.
