Lecture on research which combines the disciplines of linguistics and mathematics.
The first block discusses the basic linguistic notions from the mathematics perspective.
The second block discusses the mathematic theories referred to in linguistics.

On completion of the course the student:
(KNOWLEDGE)
– knows the selected mathematical models referred to in linguistic descriptions;
- knows the chosen terms and laws of mathematical linguistics;
(SKILLS)
– is able to distinguish the elements of discussed mathematical models in linguistic descriptions;
- is able to build a model of linguistic phenomena on the basis of the discussed mathematical model;
- is able to assess the adequacy and correctness of a mathematical model of linguistic phenomena;
(ATTITUDES)
- understands the problems connected with mathematical modelling of a language and its reasons.
Assessment criteria
Assessment is based on results of written final examination.
