The course covers the following topics:
1. Vocal apparatus - description and its functioning.
2. A phoneme and a sound; a letter and a sound.
3. Classification of vowels in Russian and their characteristics.
4. Russian vowels in stressed position.
5. Reduction of vowels in unstressed position.
6. Classification of consonants in Russian and their characteristics.
7. Modification of consonants in phonemic series - assimilation.
8. Modification of consonants in phonemic series - consonant group simplification, dissimilation.
9. Transcription as the visual representation of speech sounds.
10. Phonetic transcription principles - exercises.
11. Intonation patterns in Russian.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course a student:
- hears clearly and pronunce correctly the sounds of Russian;
- defines the basic differences in pronunciation of sounds in Polish and Russian;
- applies articulative, intonation and expressive techniques in context, i.e. in direct use of a language by producing his/her own texts;
- identifies and corrects incorrectly acquisited articulation and intonation patterns;
- identifies and applies methods of preventing phonetic interference between Polish and Russian;
- applies the principles of phonetic transcription to pronunciation in Russian;
- converts symbols of phonetic transcription into spelling in Russian.
