Literature and media 3222-52LM2K-N
The course is in the form of a seminar. Students broaden their knowledge of the issues of the information society, media convergence culture, development, functioning and influence of media on literature and the literary process. They learn about issues related to the process of producing and receiving literature on the Internet, the functioning of literary texts in the digital environment, and the emergence of new literary forms such as hyperprose, interactive literature.
If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Meet and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
Student workload
30 hours in the classroom - 1 ECTS
30 hours of student's independent work - 1 ECTS (10 hours - reading, 20 hours - preparation of a term paper)

Term 2023L:
Students deepen their knowledge of the problems of information society, media convergence culture, development, functioning and influence of media on literature and the literary process. They will learn about issues related to the process of producing and receiving literature on the Internet, the functioning of literary texts in the digital environment, the emergence of new literary forms such as hyperprose, interactive literature. We will also address issues related to the involvement of Ukrainian writers in the creation of social media and their links to the literary process, particularly after 24 February 2022. |

Learning outcomes
The student knows and understands:
the terminology and methodology of literary studies in greater depth K2_W02,
key issues related to the directions of development of contemporary Ukrainian literature in greater depth K2_W07.
The student is able to:
use appropriate methods and research tools in the field of Ukrainian literary studies K2_U04
formulate and test hypotheses related to research in the field of Ukrainian literary studies K2_U06.
The student is ready to
critical evaluation of knowledge and received content K2_K01.
Assessment criteria
Conditions for admission to the final pass:
- continuous assessment, i.e. active participation in classes - 50%
- systematic preparation for classes of the given material - 50%
The condition for admission to pass the course is attendance (in accordance with the Study Regulations at the University of Warsaw)
The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides whether to acknowledge the absence.
The form of crediting the classes in which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.
Exceeding excused and unjustified absences for 50% of classes may be the basis for failing the course.
Written credit in the form of a term paper.
Term work requirements:
1. The author should formulate a research problem, that is, make a thesis that he will try to verify (prove or disprove) in the work.
2. Before starting to write a thesis, its plan and the list of literature should be consulted with the teacher.
3. The paper should be 6-8 pages of standard text, ie the length should not be less than 10,800 characters with spaces and greater than 18,000 characters with spaces (including footnotes). The work should contain a list of the bibliography used (the volume of the list of the bibliography used is not included in the volume of the work specified above).
4. The structure of the work should include: introduction, development, ending, bibliography. The introduction should contain: thesis (formulation of the research problem), objectives of the work, justification for the choice of topic, description of the subject and subject literature. Development: proper analysis of the texts. The ending should include conclusions resulting from the research.
5. Each page of the work must be provided with bibliographic, source or reference notes.
6. The text of the work should be edited in accordance with the following rules: - font: Times New Roman Normal, size 12, - foreign language phrases in italics, - line spacing: 1.5 lines, - standard margins (top, bottom, left and right: 2.5 cm), the title of the work: Times New Roman Normal font, size 14, bold.
7. Footnotes should be placed in the text as footnotes, font Times New Roman Normal, size 10, line spacing: 1 line. A footnote is treated like a sentence, so it should start with a capital letter and end with a period. In the text, the number of the footnote should be placed without spaces after the word, before the comma. At the end of the sentence, the footnote number is placed before the full stop. Notation of footnotes and bibliography according to SUV standard.
The conditions for a retake pass are the same as for the first term pass (information above).
The following criteria are used to evaluate the work:
- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes covering all important aspects - 5.0 (very good)
- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes covering all significant aspects with a small number of errors or inaccuracies - 4.5 (good plus)
- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes, omitting some (less important) aspects - 4.0 (good)
- achieving the assumed learning outcomes with the omission of some important aspects and with significant inaccuracies - 3.5 (satisfactory plus)
- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes with the omission of significant aspects or with serious inaccuracies - 3.0 (satisfactory plus)
- failure to achieve the assumed learning outcomes - 2.0 (unsatisfactory)
