The aim of the coursee is to consider the main questions of the culture theory, finding out of basic approaches to determination of contemporary Ukrainian culture as a complicated socially-historical phenomenon, studies of the Ukrainian culture development of the Independence period. The discipline emphasizes the most important moments of culture historical development and the most outstanding challenges of the culture in its connections with the world sociopolitical conditions as well as considering of the crucial advancement of the Ukrainian nation’s culture, disclosure of the vital events and phenomena of the national and world culture in their unlikeness and comparison, analysis of the activity of the great persons of the cultural process.

30 hours of preparation for the final exam – 1 ECTS

Learning outcomes
S1_W03; in-depth knowledge of terminology and research methodology in the field of cultural studies
S1_W09; in-depth knowledge of key issues related to the directions of development of contemporary Ukrainian cultural studies.
S1_U03; appropriately select sources and information derived from them, creatively interpret and present information in the field of Ukrainian cultural studies.
S1_U06; apply appropriate research methods and tools in the field of Ukrainian cultural studies.
S1_U14; independently plan and implement their own lifelong learning.
S1_K03 responsibly perform professional roles, taking into account changing social needs, while ensuring the development and preservation of the profession's ethos.
Assessment criteria
The course ends with an examination.
Conditions for admission to the examination:
attendance in classes;
- active participation during classes;
- systematic preparation for classes and knowledge of the assigned material;
- preparation of an individual presentation;
- timely completion of homework assignments.
The final examination is graded according to the following percentage scale:
60%–68% – 3 (satisfactory)
69%–77% – 3+ (satisfactory plus)
78%–85% – 4 (good)
86%–91% – 4+ (good plus)
92%–97% – 5 (very good)
98%–100% – 5! (excellent / very good with distinction)
Students are allowed two unexcused absences; each additional absence requires valid justification.
The form of assessment for classes missed by the student is determined by the course instructor.
Exceeding 50% of absences, whether excused or unexcused, may constitute grounds for refusal of admission to the examination or failure of the course.
If a student does not obtain a passing grade in the first examination session, they are entitled to retake the examination during the resit session in accordance with the university regulations.
