The aim of the course is to provide students with in-depth knowledge of avant-garde tendencies and trends in European literature and art of the 20th century (1900-1939). The term avant-garde (French avant garde - "advance guard") is understood here broadly, as a set of artistic tendencies cutting themselves off from tradition, the aim of which is to create their own world, and not to imitate reality (rejection of mimesis), searching for original ideological and artistic solutions and own language of expression.
The classes will be devoted to the analysis of selected literary texts, works of art, ballet, cinema and music.
Student workload:
30 hours - preparation for classes – 1 ECTS
30 hours – project preparation – 1 ECTS
30 hours – preparation for the exam/pass – 1 ECTS
total: 90 hours - 3 ECTS

After completing the item:
The student is ready to critically evaluate the received content (S2_K01)

The student knows and understands in-depth the theory and research methodology regarding the avant-garde in European art and literature of the early 20th century (S2_W02)
The student is able to independently acquire knowledge in the field of Ukrainian literature and selected literatures from other countries of Central and Eastern Europe, conduct research work, following the instructions of the academic supervisor (S2_U03)
The student is ready to critically evaluate the received content (S2_K01)
The student is ready to recognize the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems (S2_K02)
Assessment criteria
Conditions for passing the course and being admitted to the final test:
- attendance at classes (three unexcused absences allowed)
- control of current preparation
- passing partial control tests
The assessment ends with a WRITTEN test
Percentage thresholds:
99-100% - 5! (very good rating with an exclamation mark)
93-98% - 5 (very good rating)
87-92% - 4+ (good plus rating)
77-86% - 4 (good rating)
70 -76% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)
60 -69% - 3 (satisfactory)
