Ukrainian Semantics 3222-50SU2K-N
The course focuses on the analysis of problems of contemporary Ukrainian semantics. One of the basic principles of the course is the assumption that the vocabulary and syntax of every language (including Ukrainian) form a system composed of elements whose functions are determined by a network of relationships. At the same time, the nature of functional relationships within the lexicon is linked to the grammatical system, and vice versa: syntax does not exist without lexis.
During the course, lexical and grammatical meanings of words, word structure, the concepts of the sememe and the seme, and the classification of semes are discussed. An important component of the course is familiarizing students with lexical systems.
Students also become acquainted with theories of word-formation semantics, phraseological semantics, and morphological semantics.
The linguistic material necessary for semantic analysis expands students’ language competence, as the lectures are conducted in Ukrainian.
In the event that classes cannot be held in an on-site format, they will be conducted using online communication tools, most likely Google Meet and other tools recommended by the University of Warsaw.
