After completing the course, the student:

S1_W04 - knows to an in-depth degree the relationship of philological research and its complex interrelationships with other scientific disciplines;
S1_W05 - knows to an in-depth degree the psychological basis of language functioning;

S1_U10 - is able to communicate on specialized topics with diverse audiences;
S1_U11 - is able to debate on specialized topics.

S1_K03 - is ready to perform professional roles responsibly, taking into account the changing social needs, taking care of the development and preservation of the ethos of the profession.

The subject ends with a written exam.
The grade is given on the basis of the exam and the project, which consists of writing an independent written work - a study of a selected theoretical problem in sociolinguistics (min. 12 pages).

Conditions for passing the course and admission to the exam:
- continuous evaluation, control of current preparation
- active participation in the discussion of other students' speeches and individual projects carried out.

Each student must speak at least 2 times during the semester with information on a selected topic/issue.
Topics are proposed at 1 class, students make their choice at 2 classes.
The implementation of the topic is discussed in the next classes, during the speeches.

Criteria for passing the course:
- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects - 5.0 (very good grade)
- achievement of the assumed educational effects covering all significant aspects with a small number of errors or inaccuracies - 4.5(good plus grade)
- achievement of the assumed educational effects with omission of some (less important) aspects - 4.0 (good grade)
- achievement of the assumed educational effects with omission of some important aspects and with significant inaccuracies - 3.5 (gradeadministrative plus)
- achievement of the assumed educational effects with omission of important aspects or with serious inaccuracies - 3.0 (gradeadministrative plus)
- failure to achieve the intended learning outcomes - 2.0 (a failing grade).

Criteria for evaluation of written work:
Grading from 5+ to 2, depending on the level of the study:
5+ - work at a very high level; can be recommended for publication, as a paper for a conference
5 - independent work, high level of argument and conclusions; complete linguistic correctness; rich bibliography
4+ independent work, very good level of argumentation and conclusions; linguistically correct; appropriately selected bibliography
4 - independent work, good level of argument and conclusions; few linguistic errors that do not affect the perception of the content; adequate bibliography
3+ - independent work, poor level of argumentation and conclusions; numerous linguistic errors that affect the perception of the content; fairly adequate bibliography
3 - independent work, very weak level of argumentation and conclusions; numerous linguistic errors that affect the perception of the content; inadequate or reasonably adequate bibliography
2 - independent work, low level of argument and conclusions; numerous linguistic errors that affect the perception of the content; inadequatebibliography.

A student is entitled to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent absence requires the submission of an excuse.
Recognition of absences is decided by the lecturer.
Exceeding excused and unexcused absences for 50% of classes may be grounds for failing the course.
