The aim of the course is to master the Ukrainian language to the extent that allows fluent communication in various situations of social life. Main emphasis is on specific language, used in social life, mass-media, politics, science. The course presents main communication models.
By working with a variety of texts, the student becomes accustomed to the specialised vocabulary of media language, learns to use different styles and becomes aware of the presence of misinformation in social communication.
The student's workload:
organized hours - 15 hours
student's independent work (current preparation for classes, partial work, final test) - about 15 hours
total: 30 hours (1 ECTS)

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
- will know in a deeper degree the terminology and methodology of linguistic research (K2_W01)
- will know in a deeper degree the relations of philological research and its complex interrelations with other scientific disciplines (K2_W03)
- will have an in-depth knowledge of key issues connected with the development and functioning of the modern Ukrainian language in various fields,(K2_W06)
- will be able to select appropriately sources and information from them, make a critical analysis, a creative interpretation and presentation of information on the Ukrainian language (K2_U01)
- will be able to apply proper methods and research tools in the field of Ukrainian linguistics (K2_U03)
- will be able to formulate and test hypotheses related to research in the field of Ukrainian linguistics (K2_U05)
- will be able to communicate on specialist topics with a diversified audience (K2_U07)
- will be able to critically evaluate his/her knowledge and received contents (K2_K01)
Assessment criteria
Credit conditions for the subject and admission to the final test:
- attendance
- passing the tests
- submitting the project
The final mark is:
- 10% continuous assessment
- 40% project
- 50% final written test
Criteria for the assessment of the final written test:
60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)
69% - 77% - 3+ (rated satisfactory plus)
78% - 86% - 4 (good)
86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)
92% - 97% - 5 (very good)
98% -100% - 5! (very good with an exclamation mark)
The student has the right to 2 absences for each 30 h. If there are more than 2, including the justified, the student should ask the lecturer to determine the form of credit for the course material.
Exceeding missed and unjusted absences by 50% of classes is the basis for failure to credit the subject.
In the event of failing to pass the course by the last class of the semester, the student must pass the course and get a mark during the initial exam period or the retake exam period.
