The aim of the course is to practise students' B2 + / C1 CEFR skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
The student can understand extensive texts with regards to a wide variety of topics. While reading and listening, the student can understand not only the basic message, but also the subtext, hidden meanings and attitude of the author of the text.
The student can speak fluently, quickly and freely by choosing the right wording.
The student uses language effectively and freely in social and educational, or professional contacts.
The student can formulate clear, well-structured, detailed written statements regarding a wide range of topics using grammatical rules and language tools.
Student workload: ECTs - 5 points
organized hours - 4 hours per week x 1 semester = 60 hours
student's individual work - 60 hours preparation for classes,
preparation for the exam - 30 hours
If it is not possible to conduct classes on the university premises, classes shall be held with the aid of distance learning tools recommended by the University of Warsaw (Zoom and Google Forms).

K2_W09 The graduate knows and understands the English language in speech and writing in accordance with the requirements specified for B2 +/C1 level of the European System of Language Description.
K2_U10 A graduate can communicate in writing and orally in English in accordance with the requirements specified for B2 +/ C1 level of the European System of Language Description
K2_K01 The graduate is ready to critically evaluate his knowledge and received content.
Assessment criteria
Conditions on which the student is allowed to take the examination:
- presence in classes;
- passing control tests and writing essays;
- completion of an individual project / a group project.
The student enjoys the right to three unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires an explanation.
Absence in more than 50% of classes results in failure to receive a pass and take the examination.
Final credit consists of a written exam. If a student fails to receive credit for classes in which they have participated, they lose the chance to take the examination in the first examination period.
The student enjoys the right to take the examination in the resit session, with the form of the examination being unchanged relative to the original exam in the main session, provided thay they have received a pass for classes in which they have participated.
Evaluation criteria for written works:
a) grammar and vocabulary continuum;
b) composition and style;
c) facts and figures.
Evaluation criteria for speaking tasks:
a) the degree to which the target text corresponds to the topic;
b) coherence and fluency of the target text;
c) eloquence.
For the written exam the assessment criteria are presented using percentage thresholds:
99% -100% - 5! (very good with an exclamation mark)
96% - 98 % - 5 (very good)
87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus)
78% - 86% - 4 (good)
69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)
60% – 68% - 3 (satisfactory).
