performing oral exercises (conversations on various topics - more complex utterances), and through this practising and improving pronunciation;
- learning vocabulary related to different areas of student's life and more broadly to the human being in society, reading information about the country: news from the press, the Internet (advertisements, commercials, directories, letters, timetables);

- emphasis on the development of speaking skills - describing current events and one's own experiences, explaining plans, intentions, reasons, views and expressing opinions, active participation in discussions, presentation of material from different areas of society.
Exercises are devoted in detail to the development of communicative competence - during each class a topic is presented and the student has the opportunity to get acquainted with the lexical resources related to the topic, constructions allowing for free discussion of the topic in general and in detail, expressing one's position - arguments for and against, justifying one's opinion, views.
Texts used in class include excerpts from the press, literary texts, tourist brochures, texts available on the Internet, films and recordings of radio and TV programmes. Didactic texts are selected with a view to achieving specific effects on language learning, supplemented by tasks and exercises; listening to recordings with comprehension questions and short grammar exercises; using learned words and phrases in independent written and oral statements.

- introducing students to the culture and history of Ukraine, describing major cities and tourist attractions, looking at photos;
- using props from Ukraine in class, necessary to approximate hypothetical communication situations in which the students may find themselves in the country of the taught language.
