Ukrainian language in social communication and the media 3222-50JUKM2C-N
In class, journalistic texts from an established source are presented according to a specific thematic profile. A corpus of texts from a selected source of mass information resources is prepared, especially concerning issues of constraint in social and intercultural dialogue (e.g., threats to the modern world, refugees and migration, financial crisis, historical memory, intergenerational divisions, national minorities, social divisions, etc.). Articles are analyzed primarily in terms of language.
Exercises - 30 hrs.
Independent preparation for each class 1/2 hour per week - about 15 hrs.
Project preparation - 30 hrs.
Preparation for the exam - about 15 hrs.
Total - about 90 hrs (3 ECTS).

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
S1_W04 - knows in depth the relationship of philological research and its complex interrelationships with other disciplines
scientific disciplines;
S1_W05 - knows to an in-depth degree the psychological basis of language functioning;
S1_W07 - knows to an in-depth degree the key issues related to the development and functioning of the modern Ukrainian language in various fields;
S1_W10 - knows spoken and written Ukrainian in accordance with the requirements of at least B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
S1_U01 - is able to properly select sources and information from them, make a critical analysis, creative interpretation and presentation of information in the field of Ukrainian language;
S1_U10 - is able to communicate on specialized topics with diverse audiences.
S1_U12 - is ready to communicate orally and in writing in Ukrainian in accordance with the requirements specified for level at least B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
S1_K02 - is ready to think and act in an entrepreneurial manner and to initiate actions for the public interest or social environment.
Assessment criteria
The subject ends with a written exam.
Conditions for admission to the exam:
- attendance and preparation for classes;
- mandatory mid-semester presentations of texts on a selected topic from an established source (selection at the first class).
Examination, which consists of the submission of an independent written work on a selected topic (about 12 typed pages).
Evaluation of written work: Rating depending on the level of the study:
5+ - work at a very high level; can be recommended for publication/as a paper for a conference
5 - independent work, high level of argument and conclusions; complete linguistic correctness; rich bibliography
4+ independent work, very good level of argumentation and conclusions; linguistically correct; appropriately selected bibliography
4 - independent work, good level of argumentation and conclusions; few linguistic errors that do not affect the reception of the content; adequate bibliography
3+ - independent work, poor level of argument and conclusions; numerous linguistic errors that affect the perception of the content; fairly adequate bibliography
3 - independent work, very poor level of good level of argument and conclusions; numerous linguistic errors that affect the perception of the content;inadequate or fairly adequate bibliography
2 - independent work, low level of argument and conclusions; numerous linguistic errors that affect the perception of the content; inadequate bibliography
Components of the final assessment:
- continuous, formative assessment (activity, preparation for classes) - 20% - exam - 80%.
