Ukrainian language in diplomacy 3222-35JUD3K-N
The course focuses on vocabulary related to diplomacy, linguistic analysis of selected documents, and terminology used in international relations. It introduces the latest concepts and terms in the fields of diplomacy. The course also reflects current trends in the development of contemporary Ukrainian as used in professional contexts, particularly in diplomatic settings.
During the course, students will explore the culture and linguistic specifics of diplomacy. They will expand their specialized vocabulary related to international cooperation with Ukrainian partners and enrich their terminology in the field of diplomacy through the study of selected texts and specialist literature.
Students become familiar with the diplomatic realities of Ukraine and Poland. Through working with professional texts, they also gain general knowledge about, among other things, Ukraine’s cooperation with the European Union and other countries around the world.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student:
Knows:
K1_W01 – advanced terminology and methodology of linguistic research.
K1_W04 – the complex nature of language and its historical variability at an advanced level.
K1_W09 – the Ukrainian language in speech and writing in accordance with the requirements of level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Is able to:
K1_U08 – communicate with others using philological terminology.
K1_U09 – communicate orally and in writing in Ukrainian in accordance with the requirements of level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Is ready to:
K1_K01 – critically evaluate their own knowledge and the content they receive.
Assessment criteria
The course ends with a graded credit.
Conditions for passing the course and being admitted to the final assessment:
• Attendance in class
• Regular preparation of the assigned material for each class
The final grade consists of:
• Formative assessment based on in-class performance during the semester (30%)
• Result of the final written test (70%)
When issuing the final assessment, the following criteria apply:
- achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects - 5.0 (very good grade)
- achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects with a small number of errors or inaccuracies - 4.5 (good plus)
- achieving the assumed learning outcomes without taking into account some (less important) aspects - 4.0 (good grade)
- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes, omitting some important aspects and with significant inaccuracies - 3.5 (satisfactory plus)
- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes, omitting significant aspects or with serious inaccuracies - 3.0 (satisfactory plus)
- failure to achieve the expected learning outcomes - 2.0 (unsatisfactory)
The subject ends with a written exam, where the assessment criteria are presented in the form of interest thresholds (points obtained from the written test):
60% - 69% - 3 (satisfactory)
70% - 77% - 3+ (rated satisfactory plus)
78% - 85% - 4 (good)
86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)
92% - 97% - 5 (very good)
98% -100% - 5! (Very good with an exclamation mark)
