During the course, modern Ukrainian literature will be considered as both an embodiment of the social thought of the era and a mechanism for influencing it. The main contexts of analysis of literary works are decolonization, gender, ecocritical, and metamodernist.
The objects of analysis during the course are the works of Oksana Zabuzhko, Serhiy Zhadan, Sofia Andrukhovych, Artem Chekh, Artur Dron, Halyna Kruk, Victoria Amelina, and others.
The student's workload:

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
- has an advanced knowledge and understanding of the history and contexts of Ukrainian literature of the 20th-21st centuries (K1_W07),
- is able to use theoretical approaches relevant to Ukrainian literature of the 20th-21st centuries (K1_U04),
- is able to formulate and solve a research task in the field of Ukrainian literary studies (K1_U06),
- is able to independently plan and implement their own lifelong learning (K1_U11),
- has an advanced knowledge and understanding of the terminology and methodology of literary research of the 20th-21st centuries (K1_W02),
- is ready to critically evaluate their knowledge and the content they receive (K1_K01).
Assessment criteria
The course concludes with an examination.
Requirements for passing the course and for admission to the final examination:
- attendance at classes;
- active participation in classes;
- systematic preparation of the material covered in class;
- punctual completion of homework and writing control tests in due time;
- conducting and presenting in writing an individual research project (semester paper).
Semester paper requirements:
1. The author should formulate a research problem, that is, make a thesis which he will try to verify (prove or disprove) in the work.
2. Before starting to write a thesis, its plan and the list of literature should be consulted with the teacher.
3. The paper should be 5-8 pages of standard text, ie the length should not be less than 10,000 characters with spaces and greater than 15,000 characters with spaces (including footnotes). The work should contain a list of the used bibliography (the volume of the list of the used bibliography does not, however, be included in the above-mentioned volume of the essay).
4. The structure of the work should include: introduction, development, ending, bibliography. The introduction should contain: thesis (formulation of the research problem), objectives of the work, justification for the choice of topic, description of the subject and subject literature. Develop a proper analysis of the texts. The conclusion should include the conclusions resulting from the research.
5. Each page of the work must be provided with bibliographic, source or reference footnotes.
6. The text of the work should be edited in accordance with the following rules: - font: Times New Roman Normal, size 12, - foreign language phrases in italics, - line spacing: 1.5 lines, - standard margins (top, bottom, left and right: 2.5 cm), - title of the article: Times New Roman Normal font, size 14, bold.
7. Footnotes should be placed in the text as footnotes, font Times New Roman Normal, size 10, line spacing: 1 line. A footnote is treated like a sentence, so it should start with a capital letter and end with a period. In the text, the number of the footnote should be placed without spaces after the word, before the comma. At the end of the sentence, the footnote number is placed before the full stop at the end of the sentence. Notation of footnotes and bibliographies according to SUV standard.
The final mark consists of the work during the semester (50%) and the exam result (50%).
The subject ends with an exam, where the assessment criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds (points obtained from the exam)
60% - 68% - 3 (sufficient grade)
69% - 77% - 3+ (pass mark)
78% - 85% - 4 (good)
86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)
92% - 97% - 5 (very good grade)
98% -100% - 5 !(evaluation very good with an exclamation mark)
Assessment criteria:
- Achieving the intended learning outcomes, covering all relevant aspects – 5.0 (very good grade)
- Achieving the intended learning outcomes, covering all relevant aspects, with a small number of errors or inaccuracies – 4.5 (good plus grade)
- Achieving the intended learning outcomes, excluding some (less important) aspects – 4.0 (good grade)
- Achieving the intended learning outcomes, excluding some relevant aspects and with significant inaccuracies – 3.5 (satisfactory plus grade)
- Achieving the intended learning outcomes, excluding relevant aspects or with serious inaccuracies – 3.0 (satisfactory plus grade)
- Failure to achieve the intended learning outcomes – 2.0 (failure grade)
In the event of a failing grade, the student has the right to retake the exam in the same format, provided they receive a pass. The lecturer may establish additional conditions for crediting for absences.
Students are allowed two unexcused absences; any subsequent absences require a justification.
The form of credit for classes from which the student was absent is determined by the instructor.
Exceeding 50% of the number of excused and unexcused absences may result in failing the course.
