The aim of the course is to provide students with the basics of specialist knowledge, a practical introduction to the art of translation and to develop skills in mastering various translation strategies.
The classes will be devoted to the analysis of theoretical texts devoted to the art of translation and practical exercises in translating various types of texts:
- fiction
- journalistic texts
- scientific texts
- official documents.

Learning outcomes
The student is able to search, analyze, evaluate, select and use information on translation studies using various sources and methods in unpredictable conditions (S2JJ01)
The student is able to independently acquire knowledge in the field of Ukrainian and conduct research, following the instructions of the academic supervisor (S2JJ03)
The student is able to communicate with specialists in the field of translation studies with diverse target groups, in Polish, Ukrainian using various communication channels and techniques (S2_U06)
Assessment criteria
Conditions for passing the subject and being admitted to the final assessment:
- continuous assessment, i.e. active participation in classes
- systematic preparation of assigned translations of texts for classes
- active participation in work on individual and group projects
Assessment components:
- continuous, formative assessment (ongoing preparation for classes, activity) – 50%
- individual and group projects - 50%
Assessment in written form, where the assessment criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds (points obtained from passing)
60% – 68% - 3 (sufficient grade)
69% - 77% - 3+ (sufficient plus grade)
78% - 86% - 4 (good grade)
87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus grade)
96% - 98 % - 5 (very good grade)
