Ukrainian language practice (translation workshop) 3222-30TL5C-N
The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge about translations of various utility texts (literary, journalistic, popular science, specialist texts), to familiarize themselves with the sources that translators can use (internet and book dictionaries, corrective studies), to develop the habit of checking grammatical, stylistic and lexical translation, introduction to the problems of synonymy and inter-linguistic equivalence.
The classes will be devoted to the practice of translation and interpretation: liasion (sentence by sentence) and consecutive (consecutive) interpreting.
Student workload
Estimated number of hours that the student must spend to achieve the learning outcomes defined for the subject - 60 hours. (2 ECTS)
organized hours - 2 hours a week x 1 semester = 30 hours
student's independent work (ongoing preparation for classes) 10 hours ,
preparing for passing the subject - 20 hours
If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be held using the remote communication tools recommended by the University of Warsaw: Google Meet.

After completing the course, the student
1.knowledge:
- has in-depth knowledge of selected translation strategies and techniques K1_W05
2.skills:
- can use theoretical approaches appropriate for the K1_U07 translation studies
3. social competences
- is ready to critically evaluate his knowledge and received content K1_K01.
Assessment criteria
Conditions for admission to the final grade with a grade:
- attendance
- control of the current preparation.
Assessment criteria for final credit with a grade, which it is
an individual project that checks the acquired language competences is presented in the form of percentage thresholds:
99% -100% - 5! (Very good rating with an exclamation mark)
96% - 98% - 5 (very good)
87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus)
78% - 86% - 4 (good)
69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)
60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory).
The student is entitled to 2 absences. If there are more than 2 of them, including excused ones, the student should ask the lecturer to determine the form of crediting the material from the classes.
Exceeding excused and unjustified absences for 50% of classes is the basis for failing the course.
Rules for taking a make-up test:
In the event of failing to pass the course by the last class of the semester, the student must pass the course and get a mark during the initial exam period or the retake exam period.
