The aim is the students acquire English language skills at B1+/B2, the level which enables communication in different everyday life situations, while further acquanting them with the knowledge of life in the English speaking countries. The following is B2 CEFR description of skills.
A student can understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. They can understand most TV news and current affairs programmes. They can understand the majority of films in standard dialect.
A student can read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt particular attitudes or viewpoints. They can understand contemporary literary prose.
A student can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible. They can take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining my views.
A student can present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to their field of interest. They can explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
A student can write clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects related to their interests.
The content of the study:
a student gets acquainted with the following lexis domains: engineering, trends, arts and media;
a student is prepared to use the following grammar structures both in writing and speaking: passive voice, articles, expressions of quantity, infinitives and gerund forms, adjective order, reported speech (commands and questions).
a student knows the rules according to which a description of a process, a description of a trend and a report are composed.
Student workload (2ECTS):
60 hours
Assisted work – 2 hours a week x one semester= 30 hours
Self-study – 15 hours-preparation for classes, 15 hours- preparation for pass
Didactic methods:
B1-B2: communicative approach including the following techniques: imitation, synonym-antonym, filling in the gaps, drills, Polish equivalent, mini drama, transformation, definitions, paraphrasing, interview
If it is not possible to conduct classes on university premises, classes
shall be held with the aid of distance learning tool: Google Meet.

Assessment criteria
Requirements to be met to be given a pass (for the first and second attempt) and be able to take the exam (in the first and second attempt),
grading elements:
continuous, formative assessment:

-team and individual presentations - 25%
- final exam grade - 50%
The criteria of the final written exam are expressed in the form of percentage values
60% – 68% - 3
69% - 77% - 3+
78% - 86% - 4
87% - 95% - 4+
96% - 98 % - 5
99% -100% - 5 !
The condition to be able to take the final written exam is the presence during in-class classes.
A student is entitled to 2 unexcused absences.
A lecturer decides on the manner of catching up with the material discussed during the classes a student has not attended.
