Practical English language learning 3222-30PNJA4C-NZ
The aim of the course is to develop students’ English language competence at the B2/B2+ level, enabling effective communication across a wide range of everyday situations and deepening their understanding of the culture, social realities, and environments of English-speaking countries. The course supports the development of listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary expansion, and the ability to produce well-structured spoken and written discourse. Its implementation facilitates achieving B2 proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), including understanding extended speech and lectures, most television programmes and films in standard varieties of English, as well as articles, reports, and contemporary prose. Students are able to engage in fluent conversations with native speakers, participate actively in discussions, present their opinions, and defend their arguments. In written communication, they can produce clear and detailed texts on topics of personal interest, analyse issues, and present possible solutions.
Student workload (2 ECTS):
60 hours per semester, including 30 hours of scheduled classes (2 hours per week) and 30 hours of independent work: 15 hours of preparation for classes and 15 hours of preparation for the final assessment.
If classes cannot be held in person, the course will be delivered using online learning tools, in particular Google Meet.

The aim is the students acquire English language skills at B1+/B2, the level which enables communication in different everyday life situations, while further acquanting them with the knowledge of life in the English speaking countries. The following is B2 CEFR description of skills. A student can understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. They can understand most TV news and current affairs programmes. They can understand the majority of films in standard dialect. A student can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible. They can take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining my views. A student can present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to their field of interest. They can explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. Assessment criteria
Requirements to be met to be given a pass (for the first and second attempt) and be able to take the exam (in the first and second attempt),

The criteria of the final written exam are expressed in the form of percentage values
60% – 68% - 3
69% - 77% - 3+
78% - 86% - 4
87% - 95% - 4+
96% - 98 % - 5
99% -100% - 5 !
The condition to be able to take the final written exam is the presence during in-class classes.
A student is entitled to 2 unexcused absences.
A lecturer decides on the manner of catching up with the material discussed during the classes a student has not attended.
