The aim of the course is to provide students with EL practice (speaking, writing, reading and listening) at the B2 level.
Student workload:
60 hours of 2ECTS
organized hours - 2 hours per week x 1 semester = 30 hours
student's individual work - 15 hours of preparation for classes, 15 hours of preparation for the exam
Term 2024L:
The aim of the course is for students to master the English language to a degree that enables them to communicate in more everyday situations and to further familiarise themselves with elements of the English language area in order to master language skills at B1 level by improving the following language skills at B2 level: The student understands the meaning of the main threads contained in complex statements on concrete and abstract topics, including substantive discussions in her field of specialisation. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. Communicates effectively in face-to-face situations. (speaking) Student workload: structured hours - 2 hours per week x 1 semester = 30 hours. |

Learning outcomes
The student knows and understands the spoken and written English language in accordance with the requirements specified for the B2 + level of the European System for the Description of Languages Education (K1_W10)
The student is able to communicate in speech and writing in English in accordance with the requirements specified for the B2 + level of the European System for the Description of Languages Education (K1_U10)
the student is ready to critically evaluate the knowledge and content received (K1_K01)
Assessment criteria
Assessment methods and criteria: Conditions for passing the subject and admission to the final written exam in the form of a test, assessment components:
- continuous, formative assessment (control of the current preparation):
- control and translation tests - 25%
- group and individual presentations - 25%
- final exam grade - 50%
Written examination in the form of a test, where the assessment criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds:
60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)
69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)
78% - 86% - 4 (good)
87% - 93% - 4+ (good plus)
94% - 98% - 5 (very good)
99% -100% - 5! (Very good rating with an exclamation mark)

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides whether to acknowledge the absence.
The form of crediting the classes in which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.
Exceeding excused and unjustified absences for 50% of classes may be the basis for failing the course.
If it is not possible to conduct classes on university premises, classes shall be held with the aid of distance learning tools, most likely ZOOM and CLASSROOM and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
