Students master the English language at the B1+ level.
A student can understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. They can understand most TV news and current affairs programmes. They can understand the majority of films in standard dialect.
A student can read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt particular attitudes or viewpoints. They can understand contemporary literary prose.
A student can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible. They can take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining my views.
A student can present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to their field of interest. They can explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
A student can write clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects related to their interests. They can write an essay or report, passing on information or giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view. They can write letters highlighting the personal significance of events and experiences
The content of the study:
a student gets acquainted with the following lexis domains: design, business, engineering, trends, arts and media, crime;
a student is prepared to use the following grammar structures both in writing and speaking: modals to express necessity, obligation, present deduction, past continuous and past perfect simple, the passive, artcles, infinitives and -ing forms, reported speech, third conditional.
a student knows the rules according to which a product report, formal and informal correspondence, short formal report and a cause and effect essey are composed and to describe trends, processes.

Learning outcomes
A student knows and understands English in both writing and speaking according to the requirements determined for B1+ level of CEFR (K1_W10)

A student is ready to assess in a critical way
the knowledge amassed and information received (K1_K01)
Assessment criteria
The course has 4 ECTS credits = 120 hours
30 hours in the classroom
30 hours - preparing presentatins, learning for classes
15 hours - preparing for the final assessment
Conditions for passing the course and for admission to the final assessment, assessment components:
- control tests and translation tests - 25%
- group and individual presentations - 25%
-final test - 50%.
Final test (written), where the evaluation criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds:
60% - 68% - 3
69% - 77% - 3+
78% - 86% - 4
87% - 95% - 4+
96% - 98% - 5
99% -100% - 5 !
A student is entitled to 3 unexcused absences, each subsequent absence requires an excuse. The lecturer decides about accepting the absence.
The form of crediting the classes in which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.
Exceeding excused and unexcused absences in 50% of classes may be the basis for failing the course.
If it is not possible to conduct classes in a stationary form, classes will be held using distance communication tools, most likely Zoom and Classroom and others recommended by UW.
In the case of distance learning, the tutor may change the form of the final exam/test from written to oral.
