The aim of the course is to lead students towards the mastery of English so that they can communicate in everyday situations at B1+/B2 level:
The student is able to understand the main thoughts contained in a clear, formulated standard variation of the language on familiar topics, typical for home, school, free time, etc. He is able to understand the main idea of many radio and television programs dealing with current issues (listening comprehension).
The student understands texts consisting common vocabulary regarding everyday or professional life. He understands the descriptions of events, feelings and desires contained in private correspondence (reading and comprehension).
The student is able to cope with most linguistic situations while traveling. He is able to - without prior preparation - to participate in conversations on familiar topics regarding everyday life (e.g. family, interests, work, travel and current events) (communication).
The student is able to combine expressions in a simple way to describe experiences and events, as well as his dreams, hopes and ambitions. He can briefly justify and explain his views and plans. He can report events and tell the plot of the book or film he's read, describing his own reactions and impressions (speaking).
The student can write simple texts on familiar topics. He can write private letters/mails describing his experiences and impressions (writing).
Student workload:
120 hours (4 ECTS points).
organized hours - 4 hours weekly x 1 semester = = 60 hours (2 ECTS)
student independent work - 30 hours preparation for classes (1 ECTS), 30 hours preparation for the final test (1 ECTS)

Learning outcomes
The student knows and understands English in speaking and writing in accordance with the requirements specified for level B2 + of the European Language Education Description System (K1_W10)
The student is able to communicate in speech and writing in English in accordance with the requirements specified for level B2 + of the European Language Education Description System (K1_U10)
The student is ready to critically assess knowledge and received content (K1_K01)
Assessment criteria
Conditions for passing the course and admission to the final assessment, assessment components:
- control tests and translation tests - 25%
- group and individual presentations - 25%
- final test - 50%.
Final (written) test, where the evaluation criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds:
60% - 68% - 3
69% - 77% - 3+
78% - 86% - 4
87% - 95% - 4+
96% - 98% - 5
99% -100% - 5!
A student is entitled to 3 unexcused absences, each subsequent absence requires an excuse. The lecturer decides about accepting the absence.
The form of crediting the classes in which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.
Exceeding excused and unexcused absences in 50% of classes may be the basis for failing the course.
If it is not possible to conduct classes in a stationary form, classes will be held using distance communication tools, most likely Zoom and Classroom and others recommended by UW.
