Learning Ukrainian 3222-30NJU4C-NZ
Classes are held in Ukrainian and include lexical and grammatical exercises. The content of the teaching is subordinated to the assumption of opening up to the cognitive and communicative needs of students. The aim of the classes is to develop the following language competences:
- listening to texts, recordings, television and radio programs and oral statements of native speakers of Ukrainian, as well as performing oral exercises (conversations on various topics - complex statements), and through this practicing and improving pronunciation;
- learning vocabulary related to various areas of the student's life and more broadly - a person in society, reading information about a given country: news from the press, the Internet (advertisements, advertisements, guides, letters, timetables);
- developing the ability to independently create statements in Ukrainian by writing texts of varying degrees of difficulty,
e.g. essays, dissertations, and consolidating correct spelling (orthography) through short dictations;
- emphasis on developing speaking skills - describing current events and one's own experiences, explaining plans, intentions, reasons, views and expressing opinions, active participation in discussions, presentation of material from various areas of social life.
The exercises are devoted in detail to the development of communicative competence - a topic is presented in each class, and the student has the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the lexical resources related to the topic, structures that allow for free discussion of the topic in a general and detailed manner, expressing one's position - arguments for and against, justifying one's
opinion, views.
The classes use fragments of the press, literary texts, tourist brochures, texts available on the Internet, films and recordings of radio and television programs. The didactic texts are selected with a view to achieving specific effects in language teaching, supplemented with tasks and exercises; listening to recordings with questions checking text comprehension and short grammar exercises; using the words and phrases learned in independent written and oral statements.
Innovative methods, techniques and teaching aids are used during classes:
- use of audiovisual and multimedia materials - music videos, films, music recordings, radio programmes, commercials, listening to contemporary songs, carols and fairy tales; watching films without subtitles;
- use of Internet resources - reading daily newspapers, searching for information,
- familiarising students with the culture and history of Ukraine, describing the main cities and tourist attractions, viewing photos;
- use of props from Ukraine during classes, necessary to present hypothetical communication situations,
in which students may find themselves in the country of the language being taught.
The aim of the classes is also to train skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing and to acquire and expand
students' language competences in the following areas:
1. general understanding of written and spoken texts of varying levels of difficulty;
3. expressing the content learned during classes in text or auditory form, in grammatically correct oral and written statements
(complex);
4. expressing one's own opinion using the vocabulary and knowledge acquired during classes;
5. communicating in typical social situations; understanding relationships in the process of human communication; the ability
to react in everyday situations;
6. conducting a conversation on topics taken from everyday life and in everyday situations, as well as the ability to prepare statements on more difficult topics (active participation in discussions, debates, etc.);
Knowledge of grammar rules includes: the ability to build grammatically correct sentences; the ability to correctly solve
grammatical and grammatical-lexical exercises;

Assessment criteria
Conditions for passing the subject and being admitted to the final exam:
- active participation in classes;
- systematic preparation of assigned material for classes;
- timely completion of homework and writing of control tests within the specified time.
Criteria for assessing written statements:
a/ linguistic correctness,
b/ compliance of the statement with the topic,
c/ composition,
d/ volume of work,
Criteria for assessing oral statements, on the basis of which the lecturer gives the student feedback:
a/ coherence and fluency of the statement,
b/ linguistic correctness,
c/ compliance of the statement with the topic,
The final grade consists of the work during the semester (30%) and the result of the assessment (70%).
The subject ends with a graded exam, where the assessment criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds (points obtained from the written exam)
60% - 68% - 3 (sufficient grade)
69% - 77% - 3+ (sufficient plus grade)
78% - 85% - 4 (good grade)
86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus grade)
92% - 97% - 5 (very good grade)
98% -100% - 5 ! (very good grade with an exclamation mark)
In the event of receiving an insufficient grade, the student has the right to retake the exam in the same form provided that the subject is passed. The lecturer may establish additional conditions for passing the exam for absences.
The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences per 30 hours, each subsequent one requires submitting an excuse.
The form of crediting classes from which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.
Exceeding 50% of excused and unexcused absences in classes may be grounds for failing the subject.
