Ukrainian Literature Between East and West 3222-30LUWZ3K-N
The subject effectuated in the form of a seminar
The aim is to instill in students extended knowledge on the influence of European culture and socio-political institutions on Ukrainian cultural patterns, arts, and political traditions in the millennial history of the neighborhood and analysis of the character of the relations between neighbors in different periods.
The seminar meetings are devoted to analysis of selected texts and artefacts. The context of cultural-political debates will be subjected to analysis, with discussions planned on the need for modernization, orientation to European values, or, conversely, avoidance of these actions and valorization of national values. In the complex relationships between “domestic” and “foreign”, one can diagnose several problem aspects:
-European crises and hazards;
-current situations in Europe and prospects;
-between cosmopolitan and patriotic attitudes.
The student learns the history of cognitive conflicts, contradictory evaluations and prognoses in the Ukrainian intellectual thought and artistic activity.
An average total number of hours that the student should devote to achieving defined aims – 60 hours. The time divides into: lesson time – 30 hours and self-study time – 30 hours.

Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, a student should have the following skills.
1. A student has systemized, extended knowledge of complex nature of relationships between the Ukrainian culture and European culture (K1_W07);
A student has extended knowledge of relationships between diverse disciplines in the remit of Ukrainian studies and other scientific fields, which enables the student to assume appropriate perspectives on the scientific common ground (K1_U04).
Has the ability to express critical evaluation of its knowledge (K1_K01).
