Development of communicative competence in the Ukrainian language 3222-30KKKJU1C-NZ
The content of the teaching is subordinated to the assumption of opening up to the cognitive and communicative needs of students, classes include a series of practical exercises focused on basic communicative situations, through which students acquire vocabulary and grammatical rules of the language. Much attention is paid to correctness issues - spelling, grammar, punctuation and removing Russian-Ukrainian interference (so-called surzhyk).
Classes are conducted in Ukrainian. Their aim is to develop the following competences:
- understanding basic messages by listening
- oral exercises (conversations on various topics);
- learning vocabulary related to various areas of everyday life
- practicing communication and speaking skills using phrases and sentences,
- correctness exercises.
The exercises develop communicative competence - the student has the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the lexical resource related to the subject being studied, constructions that allow for free communication of the topic in a general way. The classes use appropriately selected fragments of textbooks, press, literary texts, texts from the Internet, fragments of films and recordings. The prepared teaching materials are intended to check the understanding of texts, the ability to use the words and phrases learned. Innovative methods, techniques and teaching aids are used during the classes - audiovisual and multimedia materials, various recordings.
The subject ends with a written exam/test.

K1_U09 - is able to communicate in speech and writing in Ukrainian in accordance with the requirements specified for level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages,
K1_U12 - plan and organize individual and team work
Assessment criteria
Conditions for passing the subject and being allowed to sit the exam:
- continuous assessment, i.e. active participation in classes;
- systematic preparation of assigned material for classes;
- timely completion of homework and control tests.
The following criteria are used for crediting:
- achievement of the intended learning outcomes covering all significant aspects – 5.0 (very good grade)
- achievement of the intended learning outcomes covering all significant aspects with a small number of errors or inaccuracies – 4.5 (good plus grade)
- achievement of the intended learning outcomes omitting some (less significant) aspects – 4.0 (good grade)
- achievement of the intended learning outcomes omitting some significant aspects and with significant inaccuracies – 3.5 (sufficient plus grade)
- achievement of the intended learning outcomes omitting significant aspects or with serious inaccuracies – 3.0 (sufficient plus grade)
- failure to achieve the intended learning outcomes – 2.0 (unsatisfactory grade)
Evaluation components:
- continuous, formative assessment (ongoing preparation for classes, activity) – 50%
- mid-semester tests/control papers – 50%
Criteria assessment of written statement:
a/ linguistic correctness,
b/ correspondence of statement with the topic,
c/ composition,
d/ volume of work,
Criteria for assessment of oral statement:
a/ coherence and fluency of statement,
b/ linguistic correctness,
c/ correspondence of statement with the topic,
The final grade consists of work during the semester (30%) and the result of the exam (70%).
The subject ends with a written exam//grading, where the assessment criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds (points obtained from the oral and written exam)
60% - 68% - 3 (sufficient grade)
69% - 77% - 3+ (sufficient plus grade)
78% - 85% - 4 (good grade)
86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus grade)
92% - 97% - 5 (very good grade)
98% -100% - 5 ! (very good grade with an exclamation mark)
The condition for admission to pass the subject is attendance at classes (according to the Regulations of Studies at the University of Warsaw)
The student is entitled to 2 (out of 30 hours) unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires submitting an excuse. The lecturer decides on the recognition of the absence.
The form of crediting classes from which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.
Exceeding the excused and unexcused absences in 50% of classes may be grounds for failing the subject.
