Ukrainian in social cimmunication 3222-30JUK5C-N
The course is intended for students of the 3rd year of undergraduate studies who already know Ukrainian very well. The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the principles of communication in various situations, other than daily contacts, as well as to familiarize them with the main substyles of the language used in them. Particular attention is paid to the language of mass-media, taking into account false information and methods of manipulation, as well as the language of social media, hate speech.
The basic principles of the diplomatic protocol, the principles of creating official magazines, speeches, etc. will also be discussed.
An important element of the course is the analysis of various materials and the independent creation of short texts of various types.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student:
1. Knows and understands:
- the state and directions of development of the contemporary Ukrainian language at an advanced level (K1_W06);
- the Ukrainian language in spoken and written form in accordance with the requirements specified for level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) (K1_W09).
2. Is able to:
- search for, critically analyze and evaluate, select, and use information related to the Ukrainian language (K1_U01);
- communicate in spoken and written Ukrainian in accordance with the requirements specified for level C1 of the CEFR (K1_U09).
3. Is ready to:
- critically assess their own knowledge and the information they receive (K1_K01).
Assessment criteria
Conditions for passing the course and being admitted to the final assessment:
- сontinuous assessment, i.e. active participation in classes, regular preparation of assigned materials, completion of homework, and preparation of a presentation.
The final grade consists of the presentation grade (40%) and the written final test (60%).
The course ends with a written test, where the grading criteria are presented as percentage thresholds (based on the number of points obtained):
98% -100% - 5 ! (excellent grade)
92% - 97 % - 5 (very good grade)
86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)
78% - 85% - 4 (good grade)
69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)
60% – 68% - 3 (satisfactory grade)
The student is allowed up to 2 unexcused absences. Any additional absence requires justification. The lecturer decides whether an absence is accepted.
The form of compensation for missed classes is determined by the lecturer.
Exceeding 50% of total absences (both excused and unexcused) may result in failure to pass the course.
If the student does not complete the course by the last class of the semester, they are entitled to obtain credit and a final grade under the same conditions during the regular exam session.
If the final test is conducted remotely, the format may be changed to an oral examination.
