Ukrainian-Polish Contrastive Linguistics 3222-30JK5K-N
The aim of the classes is for students to master the basics of contrastive linguistics using Polish and Ukrainian language material.
The history of both languages has common roots. The topic of some classes are the processes of shaping the Polish and Ukrainian languages. Students will learn, among others: origin of Polish and Ukrainian lexis.
The phonetic and phonological, lexical, phraseological, word-formation, morphological and syntactic systems of both languages are consistently considered in a comparative aspect. An important element of the course is to familiarize students with, among others, with lexical semantics, passive vocabulary, grammatical categories, sentence structure in Polish and Ukrainian.
Students' mastery of the basics of contrastive linguistics also complements their understanding of the relationships between tIf it is not possible to conduct classes in a stationary form, classes will be held using distance communication tools, most likely Google Meet and those recommended by the University of Warsaw.

2. Formation of the Polish and Ukrainian languages.
3. Phonetic systems of Polish and Ukrainian.
4. Origin of Polish and Ukrainian lexis.
5. Contrastive semantics.
6. Functionally limited vocabulary.
7. Phraseological fund of Polish and Ukrainian languages.
8. Word formation of basic parts of speech.
9. Morphological classes of words in Polish and Ukrainian.
10. Syntax of Polish and Ukrainian.
11. Sentence structure in Polish and Ukrainian.
The estimated total number of hours that a student must devote to achieving the learning outcomes defined for the subject - 60 hours.
Classes – 30 hours
Student's independent work: current preparation for classes - 15 hours, preparation for final exams - 15 hours.he elements of the linguistic system.
The linguistic material necessary for confrontational analysis expands students' linguistic competences because classes are conducted in Ukrainian.

has advanced knowledge and understanding of research in the field of Ukrainian-Polish contrastive linguistics, including the subject-specific and methodological specificity of the discipline, its terminology, and the specificity of philological research (K1_W01);
has advanced knowledge and understanding of the complex nature of language as well as the complexity and historical variability of its meanings (K1_W06);
Skills:
is able to search for, critically analyze and evaluate, select, and use information concerning the Ukrainian and Polish languages (K1_U01);
is able to apply theoretical approaches, research paradigms, and concepts characteristic of contrastive linguistics in typical professional situations (K1_U02);
is able to formulate and solve research problems in the field of contrastive linguistics (K1_U05);
Social Competences:
is prepared to critically evaluate acquired knowledge and received content (K1_K01).

Conditions for admission:
- ongoing preparation for classes,
- attendance at classes (students are entitled to two absences).
Assessment components:
- continuous, formative assessment (current preparation for classes, activity, etc.) – 10%
- written assessment – 90%.
Passing criteria (percentage thresholds):
99% -100% - 5 !(very good rating with an exclamation mark)
96% - 98% - 5 (very good rating)
87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus rating)
78% - 86% - 4 (good rating)
69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)
60% – 68% - 3 (satisfactory)
The student has the right to pass the course in the resit session on the same terms as in the main session.
