Diaries in comparative perspective X-XVIII century. 3222-30DPP2K-NW
The classes deal with personal documents (diaries, memoirs, letters) from the time of "The Tale of Bygone Years" and "The Pouchenie" of Vladimir Monomakh's, "Ihumen Daniel's Pilgrimage from the Russian Lands to the Holy Land" etc. to the numerous long and short diaries of the Baroque era, including Grab’yanka’s , Samovydets's and Velychko's Cossack Chronicles. Renaissance literature and works of the Baroque era are also analysed with an emphasis on their thematic and genre diversity. Lectures on Old Ukrainian writing aim to present the continuity of the process of development of this writing, beginning with the Christianisation of Rus' and Greco-Byzantine civilisational, religious and cultural influences, to the 'golden period' of the development of the literature and culture of Kievan Rus', continuing to a limited extent in the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia to the transformations brought about by the influence of the Renaissance and Union polemics, and finally the writing of the Baroque era, which is crowned by the work of Hryhorii Skovoroda, including the biography of him written by his pupil.
