Contemporary Belarusian literature II 3221-S2-FBA-WLBII12
The seminar is designed to introduce students to the circle of Belarusian literature since the 1990s. The subject includes information on the development of Belarusian literature for the period indicated. Particular emphasis will be placed on the presentation of the evolution of the views of writers and also on the conscious striving to inscribe into the context of European culture understood as a community of many national cultures. These changes resulted in original solutions in the literary output of such recognized writers of the older generation (W. Bykau, R. Baradulin, A. Razanau) and literary youth associated in alternative organizations: Association of Belarusian Writers: "Tutejsi", Towarzystwo Wolne Literatów, Stowarzyszenie Bum- Bam-Lit. Particular attention is paid to the creative use of the achievements of European literature (avant-gardism, postmodernism, existentialism) in the young Belarusian literature.
The seminar program provides reading Belarusian-language theoretical texts presenting the achievements of contemporary Belarusian literature and reading Belarusian literary works.

The graduate knows and understands:
- in a deepened degree, the objective and methodological specificity of the research
literary studies (K2_W02)
- in a deepened degree, literary terminology, also in the field

- in a deepened degree, the rules of interpretation of cultural products appropriate to various research schools (K2_W07)
- in a deepened degree, the main directions of the development of literary studies

The graduate can:
- formulate and analyze research problems in the field of literary studies, select innovative research methods and tools as well as develop and present results, also in unpredictable conditions (K2_U04)
- formulate and test hypotheses related to simple research problems in the field of literary studies (K2_U06)
- use theoretical approaches, research paradigms and concepts appropriate for literary studies during debates and discussions with diverse audiences (K2_U08)
- recognize different types of literature products and conduct their critical analysis and interpretation in a broad context using innovative methods (K2_U09)
- communicate using various communication channels and techniques in a selected foreign language (K2_U12)
- use a foreign language at the level indicated in the subject description, also within the framework of specialist communication (K2_U15)
- plan and implement your own lifelong learning
and to direct others in this area (K2_U17)
The graduate is willing to:
- critical assessment of possessed knowledge and received content (K2_K01)
- recognition of the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive problems
and practical and reaching for expert opinions (K2_K02)

Assessment criteria
At the oral test, the answer to three randomly drawn questions regarding the scope of material discussed in class is taken into account.
At the time of passing, questions are asked covering the issues presented during the seminar.

Student: characterizes the epoch, period or literary direction with the use of various determinants (philosophical, worldview, poetics, etc.), evokes the names of representatives (also secondary) shows detailed knowledge of the content of the readings, conducts a comprehensive analysis (referring to the genre, structure and content), gives various research positions, places the writer's work and work in the historical and literary process. The statement is spontaneous, comprehensive, thoughtful, the student uses specialist terminology extensively.

Student: characterizes the epoch, period or literary direction, demonstrates the knowledge of the content of reading, carries out the analysis (referring to the genre, structure and content), places the writer's work and work in the context of the era. The statement is fluent, the student uses specialist terminology.

Student: to a limited extent, after asking additional questions characterizes the epoch, period or literary direction, shows a basic knowledge of reading content, conducts analysis at the elementary level (referring only to the content), mentions only some representatives of the course and their work, only indicates the constitutive features epoch, period or literary direction. The statement is broken; consists of unrelated information, the student requires guidance by the examiner.
Requirements for the assessment of 5!
- 3 points for every question,
- meeting the requirements for 3 points and in addition: knowledge and skills from outside the curriculum, reading knowledge from outside the reading list, references to world literature.
Completion of the course: Contemporary Belarusian Literature
The condition for obtaining a pass is:
Knowledge of the content of texts placed on the reading list (30%)
Individual preparation and presentation of the project of the author's work included in the reading list (20%)
Oral test (30%)
Continuous assessment (current preparation and attendance at classes (20%)
The student gets a credit on condition that all requirements are met.
