Belarusian language II 3221-S1-FBA-NJB12
Classes are a continuation of Practical Belarusian at primary level and serve deepening students' language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). During the course it is being developed primarily knowledge of Belarusian spelling rules, with particular emphasis on the spelling of different combinations of consonant and vowel (mostly in borrowed lexis), including doubling and lenghtening consonants, spelling words written as one word, words separated and written with a hypen, writing compoud words and rules concerning writing with capital or lower-case letters and spelling abbreviations. Gained knowledge of orthography is still practiced in the form of dictations and numerous independent works including preparation of statements written in Belarusian.
The ability to select the correct use of grammatical forms is also deepened. Particular attention is devoted to inflection of nouns of second and third declination, uninflective nouns, Pluralia and Singularia Tantum, inflective of ordinal numerals and fractions and inflection of selected verbs. The emphasis is also on the use of certain verbs in combination with other parts of speech (for example, prepositional phrases with the verb to live, deal with what?, rest where?, go where? etc., and using other language constructs (such as pomnik kamu?, uskłasci kwietki da pomnika). Skills related to the proper use of certain linguistic forms are practiced to a lesser extent, by doing grammar exercises, and more by constructing own statements during which the note is returned to the correct accentuation of individual words. Students also learn the basic rules for construction exclamation and interrogative clauses, which they use in discussions conducted in groups.
Grammatical material is introduced based on a slightly longer spoken and written texts (including short stories, newspaper articles, lyrics, extended speech, etc.) related to daily life. Analysis of these texts is also deepening the knowledge of Belarusian language lexical issues such as house and apartment (names of rooms and furniture), work day (including determination of the date and time - exact and approximate), meals (culinary traditions), leisure, entertainment - a description of various forms of leisure (in the woods, over water, in town - cinema, theater, disco), descriptions of the main cities of Belarus and European capitals, shops, restaurants, hotels, rural life, historical monuments, the education system in Poland and in Belarus, the Belarusian nature (including the beliefs associated with it) and holidays.
During classes there are also presented in more detail manner the ways of constructing statements about the place of residence (including addressing letters and ways of creating inhabitants names), the expression of spatial relations, the time constructions.
Acquired knowledge students practice primarily through independent preparation of written and oral statements (description of the family, description of the apartment, self-presentations of different cities, etc.) during class discussions conducted in Belarusian language and listening comprehension exercises, including, for example, summarizing heard stories or songs.

Knowledge: the students understands and has an advanced knowledge of
- various functions of language in the context of, e.g. literature, culture, religion, history, art, politics, economy or media;
- the nature of language and the impact of historical and cultural changes on its development.

- search for, analyse, evaluate, select and use information by consulting sources in various languages, including on-line sources;
- communicate with specialists by using various channels and means of communication both in Polish and in a specific foreign language;
- draft correct, clear and coherent papers in Polish and in foreign languages on selected topics;
- prepare presentation in Polish and in foreign languages concerning more detailed topics by using various theoretical approaches and sources;
- speak a foreign language at the level indicated in the course syllabus;
- plan and organise individual work and work in a team (including interdisciplinary tasks);
- individually plan and pursue his or her own process of lifelong learning.
Social competencies: the student is ready to
- critically evaluate his or her knowledge and the content he or she receives;

Assessment criteria
Conditions for admission to final examination:
- systematic preparation for classes of the given material;
- timely execution of housework and control tests;
- active participation in the work on presentations, individual and group presentations;
-positive grades must be obtained from all NJB teachers.
The exam consists of: a written and oral part:
- written part (grammatical and lexical test and translation task and working out on one of three topics to choose from) -
criteria: knowledge of grammatical structures, vocabulary and spelling.

99 – 100% - 5! (excellent)
93 - 98% - 5 (very good)
87 - 92% - 4,5 (fairly good)
77 - 86% - 4 (good)
71 - 76% - 3,5 (satisfactory plus)
60 - 70% - 3 (satisfactory)
Below 60% - 2,0 (unsatisfactory)
Working out - criteria:
a / compliance with the theme,
b / compliance with the required form,

f / linguistic correctness.
- oral part / criteria:
a / communication effectiveness (the student understands the interlocutor, adequately answers questions and formulates answers, is aware of the most important polite conventions);
b / fluency of speech;
c / correct use of grammatical structures;
d / using the proper vocabulary e / correctness of pronunciation and intonation.
There is only one exam and it covers issues from four thematic blocks.The condition for admission to the oral examination is passing the written exam. The condition for passing the exam is to obtain a positive evaluation in the written and oral parts.
The final mark of the exam consists of the following components:
Assessment of written exam 50% + oral exam grade 50% = final grade of the exam
The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence. Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course. The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.
