Culture of the Belarusian Language 3221-S1-1KJ21K
Classes are devoted to several topics in the field of Belarusian language culture . There are discussed theoretical issues of language culture, such as the relationship between UZUS, a standard system, language innovations and linguistic errors and criteria for evaluating innovation. There are presented information on the codification of the Belarusian language standards (mainly spelling). There are considered contemporary linguistic trends: a return to "tarashkevica", eliminating of Russian trends; influence of Polish and Russian, the new phenomenon in word-formation.
Some classes are devoted to particular issues concerning mostly grammatical and lexical correctness (including correctness in the creation of the nomination of female names, professions, the variety of names, surnames and geographical names, criteria for evaluating the correctness of lexical selection and ways of enriching it.

After completing the course, student:
1. KNOWLEDGE:
- knows the subject and methodological characteristics of research in Belarusian studies as well as terminology used in this area,
- knows the most significant theories of literary and language studies,
- knows trends in Belarusian studies,
- knows contemporary trends in the development of the Belarusian language,
- recognizes the complex nature of a natural language, especially Belarusian
2. SKILLS:
- recognise various language structures within single utterances and assess them in terms of their correct usage,
- use the terminology of language studies in the process of analysing linguistic occurrences,
- communicate with specialists in the field of Belarusian studies, using various channels and means of communication
3. SOCIAL COMPETENCES:
- ready to identify and solve dilemmas about the profession of a language specialist
Assessment criteria
The subject ends with an exam.
Conditions for admission to the exam:
- systematic preparation for classes of the given material
- preparation and presentation of an individual or group presentation / presentation
Oral exam (three questions).
Evaluation criteria:
For a satisfactory grade (3,0) - achieving the assumed learning outcomes, without taking into account important aspects of the issues raised during the classes along with serious inaccuracies.
For a satisfactory grade plus (3.5) - achieving the assumed learning outcomes without taking into account some important aspects of the issues raised in the classroom or with serious inaccuracies.
Good grade (4.0) - achievement of the assumed learning outcomes, omitting some (less significant) aspects of the issues discussed in the classes.
Good plus (4.5) - achievement of the assumed learning outcomes covering all important aspects of the issues covered in the class with a small number of errors or inaccuracies.
Very good grade (5.0) - achievement of the assumed learning outcomes covering all important aspects of the issues discussed in the class.
For a perfect grade (5!) - achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all the important aspects of the topics discussed in the classes, expanding the circle of issues covered in the classes.
The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.
Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course.
The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.
