Specific objectives: Knowledge of the Russian literature and its European context.
Specific issues:
1. Comparative literature – basic theoretical issues. Terminology. Extent and division. Circle of researchers. Research perspectives.
2. Russian literature and West European literatures.
3. Other specific issues connected with topics of the master’s theses.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
‒ The student knows and uses the terminology in the field of the comparative studies.
‒ The student knows the extent and division of the comparative studies.
‒ The student lists the main events in the history of the comparative studies and describes the research of the representative scientists.
‒ The student has knowledge of the Russian and West-European literary connections in 18th century.
− The student knows selected research on the connections between the Russian and the German, English and French literature.
− The student knows the research results of the other selected issues consistent with the themes of the thesis prepared for the seminar.
Skills:
− The student specifies the subject and designs the structure of the thesis.
− The student draws up the bibliography for the thesis.
− The student prepares the next part (at least one chapter) of the thesis.
− The student is able to present the current state of research of the theme.
- The student has the advanced research skills in the area of analyzing and interpreting of the literary work.
Social competences:
- The student understands a specificity of the literary studies.
- The student is aware of his responsibility for the preservation of the European cultural and literary heritage.
- The student is aware of the contribution of the Russian culture in the cultural heritage of Europe.
- The student is aware of the value of the cultural diversity and respects the sings of the interculturality.
- The student indicates the priorities for the task.
- The student is aware of his knowledge and feels to be obligated to its further increasing.
- The student feels obligated to develop his own reading interests and is aware of his responsibility for the development of the reading culture.

15 ECTS - student's own work
Evaluation of the thesis (at least one chapter) and the bibliography: evaluation of the text (30%) and the bibliography
30 h (- seminar

20% - library query
30% - analysis of the material
50% - writing the thesis (30% of the text, bibliography)
The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.
Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course. The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.
If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
