The purpose of the seminar is to facilitate the independent preparation, writing, and defense of a master’s thesis in Russian, focusing on a chosen topic within the realm of contemporary Russian language. The course is devoted to the analysis of the most significant issues within the contemporary Russian language. Under the supervision of an academic tutor, students conduct independent analyses of their selected topics, which serve as the foundation for their master’s thesis. This process involves preparing a detailed plan, compiling relevant literature, consultations, and composing the master’s thesis.

Knowledge. The student:
- is familiar with the main issues of linguistic analysis of contemporary Russian language.
- is familiar with the basic methodological tools used in linguistic analysis.
- is familiar with the basic principles of writing academic papers.
- is familiar with the principles of source citation, bibliography preparation, and footnote formatting.
- is familiar with the terminology used in the humanities.
Skills. The student:
- can research, gather, and independently analyze materials and literature related to the subject.
- can conduct linguistic analysis.
- can present in Russian well-founded arguments and draw conclusions using the ideas of other authors.
- can employ an academic style when writing a master’s thesis in Russian.
- is able correctly edit the thesis according to the standards of writing master’s papers.
- can use the necessary terminology for writing a master’s thesis.
- can use dictionaries, specialized lexicons, and source materials, including internet sources.
Social competencies. The student:
- is familiar with and understands the basic concepts and principles of intellectual property protection, particularly copyright law.
- is proficient in citing the scientific works.

Methods of assessing student’s work:
- Continuous assessment
- Evaluation of progress in preparing the master’s thesis.
Assessment criteria:
- Continuous assessment, preparation of the next 30% of the master’s thesis and presentation of the results of the current research.
