Words as signs of the times (lexicology of the Russian language) II 3202-S1SLSZ32z
The seminar aims to introduce students in detail to the range of concepts and methods used in vocabulary research. Students will learn about the most important theoretical and material works that underlie the research on vocabulary. Getting to know the literature on the subject will allow students to prepare their own research workshop and present the results of their own research in the BA thesis. Teaching content: subject, scope, notional apparatus and tasks of lexicology; basic issues of lexical semantics; rules and methods of ordering and describing vocabulary; use of corpus tools in vocabulary research.
Forms of work: discussing the problems that the participants of the seminar encountered in their research work.
Requirements for passing: the seminar must be credited with the preparation and submission of a BA thesis.

Learning outcomes
After completing the seminar, the student
in terms of KNOWLEDGE knows:
- subject, scope, conceptual apparatus and tasks of lexicology;
- basic issues of lexical semantics;
- principles and methods of research in the field of vocabulary;
in terms of SKILLS, is able to:
- construct appropriate research tools, taking into account the profile of the studied phenomena;
- present the results of the study and the conclusions drawn from them;
- edit scientific texts in Russian;
- collaborate in a group.
in terms of SOCIAL COMPETENCES:
- properly understands the requirement of research reliability;
- is aware of the need to critically evaluate the received content;
- appreciates the importance of knowledge in solving research problems;
- understands the necessity of lifelong learning.
Assessment criteria
The condition for passing the seminar is the preparation and submission of a BA thesis approved by the supervisor.
If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be held using the distance communication tools recommended by the University of Warsaw: Google Meet and Kampus.
The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.
Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course. The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.
If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
