1. Historical and political-social background. New forms of cultural life after 1917 in Russia. Division into proletarian, peasant and intellectual writers.
2. Pro and contra toward events in 1917. Works of A. Blok, S. Yesenin, M. Voloshin, I. Bunin and A. Gorky.
3. Writers; organizations and groups of the 1920s, their manifestos, declarations, programs. Creation of Soviet Writers Association (1932) and proclamation of the theory of socialist realism.
4. The first wave of emigration - its representatives and their works.
5. Poets of "Silver Age" in the country, their life and works after the revolution.
6. Ornamental prose and synthetic prose - representatives of both trends.
7. The greatest epic narrations about the revolution and the civil war.
8. History and myths in works of A. Platonov.
9. Satiric prose by M. Bulgakov, I. Ilf, E. Petrov, M Zoshchenko.
10. Historic prose by A. Tolstoy and Y. Tynyanov.
11. Drama of the 1920s and 1930s.
12. Genres of social-realistic prose.
13. Literature of WWII.
14. Works of A Tvardovsky. "Vasili Tyorkin" - epos of a soldier.
The lecture aims at providing students with the knowledge of literary process in Russia at that time, its principal features, trends and representatives in the context of politics and culture. Students should learn how to analyze literary works, get to know the system of values of the period and evaluate it as opposed to the present. The lecture focuses on literary phenomena, covered in greater detail during classes.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course students should be able to identify the sequence of literary events of the period in question in political and cultural contexts; analyze works of Russian writers, interpret them and identify their specificity, know their Polish translators; identify features of avant-garde and traditional poetics, characteristic of Russian literature of the 1920s - 1940s and conduct critical analysis of literary texts.
Assessment criteria
Continuous evaluation - lecture attendance. Verification - test at the end of the semester (mandatory to settle the course).
