Detailed program covers both theoretical and practical parts within each of the topics. The following issues shall be discussed:
1. Definition and object of community interpreting
2. Community interpreting within the context of interpreting
3. Historical background
4. Importance of community interpreting and future development in Poland and abroad
5. Principles of community interpreting on the basis of a historical Spanish example – „Recopilación de Leyes de los Reynos de las Indias” of 1681
6. Principles of community interpreting on the basis of contemporary codes of ethics – in Poland and abroad (examples)
7. Professional and natural interpreters
8. Police interpreting
9. Interpreting in refugee centers
10. Medical interpreting
11. Interpreting in conflict zones
12. Interpreting in educational setting
13. Court interpreting as specific type of community interpreting
14. Tłumacz w interakcji - roles, turn-taking in the act of communication
15.Techniques and strategies in community interpreitng
Student's workload (4 ECTS), including:
- active assistance in the classes: 30 hours (2 ECTS)
- individual preparation for each tutorial: 30 hours (2 ECTS)

Students will be able to:
KNOWLEDGE
1. Define the concept of community interpreting
2. Possess basic knowledge of the place of the interpreter in the act of communication
SKILLS
1. Carry out lexical and pragmatic analysis of the act of communication with participation of the interpreter
2. Identify roles of the interpreter in the act of communication
ATTITUDES
1. Correctly assess manifestations of the interpreter's creativity
2. Understand the meaning of principles of professional ethics of interpreters
Assessment criteria
1. Methods:
Teaching methods – autonomous learning: problem-solving; source text analysis; case study.
Teaching methods – presenting: preparing short conversations (communicative acts) assisted by an interpreter in a given setting discussed during a particular class/ possibly: preparing a presentation.
Working methods: group/ pair/ individual work/ discussions/ critical reading of texts, commenting on the communicative acts assited by an interpreter in a given setting.
2. Assessment criteria:
Continuous assessment based on an active assistance in the classes (preparation for and participation in discussions; preparing and commenting on conversations assisted by an interpreter).
Two absences are possible.
The students with an unauthorized absence at more than two classes shall not get a credit.
An exceeded limit of (be it authorized or unauthorized) absences needs agreeing on a form of passing of a learning unit covered during a particular class with the trainer (preparing a presentation is usually recommended).
