MA seminar - French language 3200-M2-SEMF
The aim of the classes is to prepare students for independent research work by directing and developing their scientific interests on the topic within which they intend to write their Master's thesis. The first part of the class discusses particular issues in linguistics and features of academic language and formal register, while the second part of the class requires students to prepare a paper on a selected issue and analyse a designated text.

Upon completion of the course the student will:
Knowledge:
The student knows and understands:
- the complex structure of a foreign language and its historical development, especially in relation to language norms, language varieties, dialects, lexicography and language teaching;
- terminology of linguistics;
- the main developments and the most important new scientific achievements in linguistics
- research methods, methods of analysis of various cultural products appropriate to selected traditions, theories or research schools in the field of linguistics
- the interrelationship of linguistics with other fields of science, the role of language in interpersonal and intercultural communication, cultural differences shaping relations in the contemporary world and the resulting socio-economic realities.
Skills:
Students will be able to:
- apply the acquired knowledge to carry out research work in linguistics using appropriate methodology; identify cultural elements; search, analyse, evaluate and select authentic texts in a foreign language, also using the latest technology;
- Formulate and express their own views and ideas, using the arguments of other authors; formulate conclusions in oral and written form in a foreign language;
- to cooperate and work in a research group, taking various roles in it;
- acquire knowledge of linguistics independently, evaluate the usefulness of learned research methods;
Social competences:
The student is ready to:
- to recognise the latest knowledge in linguistics, to critically evaluate the received contents and to identify problems of international communication in this field;
- to constantly and actively participate in the cultural life of the country and the foreign language area
- to recognise the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems and to seek expert advice.
