Elective course: Translation Ethics 3200-M2-PF-ETY
An overview of research on translation ethics, translator ethics, and the ethical, social, political and communicative consequences of translation activity. Topics to be discussed will include the translator's agency, social and political roles, positioning in relation to the translated material and others involved in the translation process, standards of translators' codes of ethics, as well as actions taken in conflict situations and during humanitarian crises, and awareness of the consequences of translation action. The place of ethics in translator training programmes and translation research will be discussed separately.

Knowledge - the graduate knows and understands:
- the terminology of translation studies
- the main developments and contemporary research trends in translation studies, and
the main research centres of translation studies
- the role of language in communication between peoples and cultures
- the relationship of translation studies o other fields of science
Skills - the graduate is able to:
- use the knowledge gained to carry out research work in the field of translation studies using adequate methodology
- search for, analyse, evaluate and select information in their mother tongue and foreign languages
- express their views and opinions orally and in writing in a foreign and their mother tongue and present the views and arguments of third parties in foreign and native languages
- acquire knowledge of translation studies and assess the usefulness of the methods, practices and procedures in their own professional activity
Social competences - the graduate is ready to:
- recognise the importance of up-to-date field knowledge and critically appraise the content received
- recognise the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems and consult experts
